Academic Internet Marketing Book

Hey guys, I'm wondering if any of you know of a book that takes an academic approach to internet marketing. What I am trying to learn are the different business models in IM, how they work and the various theories and intricacies behind them.

I'm not looking for a system to make money as such even though I understand that I can get my answers from books that promise to make me $xxxx in xx hours.

I just want to develop a firm grasp of how things work and why they work the way they do. Preferrably the book must be a physical copy rather than an ebook. I'm really serious about doing this fulltime and I would like to study hard and know everything I need to know about IM!

May anybody please point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

There are many books in the "For Dummies" series which certainly come pretty close to fitting your description. (Those yellow and black ones, published by Wiley).

I don't know if there's one specific one that covers the whole subject, though.

They're particularly well written and well edited, to a strict and unvarying standard, and I've generally found them far more useful and better informed than most of the information I've ever found online. I'm not sure of the extent to which you'd call them "academic" - I think that depends on what sort of textbooks/papers you're used to reading.

      Dear multiplefigureincome,

The best way to identify academic texts on Internet marketing is to find some college courses on Internet marketing and see what textbook(s) they assign to the students.

(Alexa, no way they are going to assign a "Dummies" book at a reputable college! And Dummies books do not use what multiplefigureincome would consider to be an academic approach. That is one reason why they are so popular.)

There are several universities, such as MIT, that have their entire syllabi online.

Here is a Google search of IM college courses that should get you started:

internet marketing course site:.edu - Google Search

I don't know any academic book, marciayudkin's advice should help with that. But I know a book that I think will help you a lot getting to a fulltime online income, it is The 4-Hour Workweek, search in on Amazon. Read the reviews first and see if is what you want.
