Need graphics help. Screenshots take up too much storage

I have an ebook that is too big a file. I believe it's the screen shots. How do I reduce the size of those graphics? I don't have any graphic programs. Anything out there that's free and easy to use?

Anybody want to reduce the files for me? I have no idea what to pay. Maybe $2 a screenshot? There are 18 screen shots. Don't scream at me if that's hysterically low, I don't know any better. (LOL)

      Hi Dee,

You can go to IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide and download it for free. Then you can resize any image in a few clicks. You can also decrease the dpi or color depth. That will significantly reduce your size/load time.

Since you have several files (18) to do, you can just click on batch conversions under file, then enter the specific size/details you want and it will convert all of them for you in about 10 seconds.

If you want someone to do it for you, you can pm me or ask any of the other warriors for you. $10 should be more than fair if you're clear with your directions. =)

      Take care.

    Dee,

Your quickest solution is, as you have already guessed, to ask somebody else to do this for you. And $2 per screenshot should cover it easily. It's a quick, simple procedure involving (perhaps) a minute or two per picture.

For your future reference, Google the phrase "free graphic software" or just go to gimp [dot] org - The GNU Image Manipulation Program and download Gimp. It's open source (free).

When you want to reduce the size of a graphic, just click on the menu item for resizing your image. Most screenshots are a thousand pixels or more wide. Just reduce the size down to 400-500 pixels wide (and then save as "filename-small" if you don't want to overwrite the original). That size should be fine for an ebook.

This will drastically reduce the file size of your ebook, and it only takes a few seconds per picture. Hope this helps.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,
    Charles
