What theme is closest to thesis and easily customizable?

I am just learning that you can totally customize wp themes. I am loving wp more and more. I really like the thesis theme but it, along with all other premium themes, is sooo expensive. Is there a theme that is very close to the thesis theme and also easily customizable and seo friendly? I know its asking a lot out of a free theme...

    Headway is as close as it gets to Thesis. They're just a bit code heavy compared to Thesis

      I have to disagree, Headway is easy to use. The visual editor is basically drag and drop, yes if you want to customize styling etc. you can use the css tool. Site design and layout is done mostly via the editor though.

        For clarification, I wasn't referring to the usability. Headway is way easier to use than Thesis, however, Headway's got a heavier source code that's not as SEO friendly as Thesis.

    For free, I recommend flexibility 3. The latest version is EXTREMELY customizable. The developer, Ryan, really outperformed himself on the latest update. And when you get the funds, buy the premium version, flexsqueeze.

    You can make a thesis looking site with this, by the way, but why would you want to? There's a million of those sites already.

    (yes there are also a ton of the default flexibility themed sites, but I never use the default red color/layout.)
