    Ok there are a couple of things you can do .....
    You can get a free FTP program ( like file zilla or others)
    and up load your files or you can ( depending on what version of wordpress you have) download the plugin theme or whatever to your. Computer
    and if you have the latest version up load it to your blog
    I highly suggest if your starting out with blogs that you Check out
    becomeablogger . Com or look on YouTube both places have multiple
    videos ( for free ) showing you how to get his done . Believe me I was
    just where you are ....

    To your success

    Also make sure that you make a DB and DB user via cpanel or the admin interface, after you upload all the files you can use the web install and follow the steps

      After uploading you will want to have various plugins installed which can help. The ones I use religously are:

      1) All in one seo;
      2) Robots meta;
      3) Wp-Cache;
      4) Pretty Links;
      5) XML Sitemaps
      6) Ultimate Google Analytics.

      Im sure other people use other plugins so please feel free to add to the list.

      Best Wishes To All

    I generally use Fantastico on my host.

    Click on Fantastico
    Click on Wordpress
    Click NEW installation
    Select a destination and enter needed details
    and then let it work it's magic.

    I stopped uploading from a .zip file forever ago. Remember if you install from fantastico that you'll have to log into your installation and change the privacy settings to allow search engines.

      Shaun, do you mean you bought a template for a wordpress blog?

      I'm confused since wordpress is free but obviously if you bought a template to skin it with that's a different matter.

      If it's a template - open up your FTP program and navigate to public_html>wp-content-themes then upload your theme folder. You will not overwrite your other themes.

      Then go back to wordpress dashboard and activate the theme.

      If this isn't want you meant then explain a lil more.

      Best,

      V

          Please follow this to a "T", ok?

          1) Your current blog, assuming this is a fresh install (and you do not need anything from it)? Delete the files, delete the existing database, if so. Backup anything that you DO need (I don't want to be responsible for deleting anything you need).
          2) Create a new database (empty)
          3) Import the .sql dump file into that new database using an admin tool such as phpMyAdmin (your web host should be able to help with this)
          4) INSIDE of the database, locate 2 settings ('fields') in wp_options table (siteurl and home (option ID#1 and ID#39 typically)) and update these to your new URL. This will be an exact match for it's new URL and you must be accurate.
          5) Edit wp-config.php and update the variables DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASS, DB_HOST so that wordpress knows how to "talk" to it's new DB
          6) Upload all files into your domain's ftp account/hosting root or w/e.
          7) Revel in your awesomeness.

            It's a shame that you don't have the XML files Shaun or you could do a straight import. That's what I did the other day to do the exact same thing that you're doing plus uploaded the wp-content and wp-includes folders into a new wordpress installation.

            DV8's advice rocks but I personally don't like messing about with databases - I lost a site once that way. It totally confused me.

            But good luck!

      If you want to install a blog over an existing blog, just follow the instructions here:
      domainingdiva.com/transfer.pdf

      You will have to create a new database for it and edit the wp-config.php file with the new database info.
