Whats most successful for optins, Side Widget or popup domination?

I am having my website designed on learning guitar and I would like to build a list and get optins. What would be more successful, using popupdomination, or the side bar optin box widget? What are you guys having most success with?

For this particular case, I'd recommend side bar. (I sort of specialize in this area of IM)

A popup is almost like you are "forcing" them to sign-up. If you're wanting to build a list of good opt-ins, definitely look at the side bar option first.

Personally I would test each one. I have sites where I use Popup Domination and others that use side widgets or exit popups.

I like testing all three because each niche, and traffic source, has different requirements or expectations. Some things work great with exit popups while others better with an entry popup.

Personally, side widgets are great for WP squeeze pages. Especially if you're using a small squeeze page with a video on the left and your form on the right.

I should have said something a little farther as you have....

I've run a site in a very similar niche, so that's why I was referencing the side box instead of popup. Because usually if you're running a guitar site, there will be chords or notes on the page that they are trying to read. If a popup comes up out of nowhere, that's an annoying nuisance that makes someone want to leave the page.
