Aaarrrgh! Won't you just confirm your request?!!

I know we all experience this, but I just don't get it.

People who click your ad, read your SP, submit their details, read your step by step instructions on how to confirm their opt in (including images) and STILL don't opt in!

I'm getting about 1/3 of all opt ins unverified.

I am so tempted to go for the old single optin y'know....

How bad does this affect your subscriber rate? Do you get a huge drop out? I mean, I am telling them VERY clearly what to do next to get their free report...using images too!

Thoughts?

Hey Nick, it looks like a day for rants.

Seriously, this is something I just don't even think about anymore. I know
there are people who won't confirm and I just accept it.

    Otherwise, I will go crazy.

I don't check my stats often (I'm not a big stat checker) but when I do, it
looks like my unconfirmed rate is about 20%.

I can live with that since they either weren't serious in the first place OR
their email provider isn't delivering the confirm message, in which case they
wouldn't get my emails anyway...so no loss.

      Good point.

I think in my case, as I pay for every click, it always grates on me, y'know? It's like you can literally see your money being flushed away with no control...

...it's not such a problem when they DON'T even opt in, as I know I am totally responsible for that and I can always aim to improve my opt in rate to combat that.

One thing I thought might be the problem is that people sign up when they are on their lunch breaks at work, but don't have access to their personal emails, so that when they finally get home from their 9 to strive jobs, they have forgotten all about my little report and are too busy cooking dinner and relaxing.

In fact, that's probably more of a reason than I orignally thought. Clever me ;-)

We all know what double optin means,
but I'm sure a lot of people new to the internet have no idea.
They see something that might interest them and then expect the
info right away without having to go through another procedure.
    That's my theory anyway,

Nick, Les makes a good point. We take it for granted that everybody
understands all this marketing stuff. They don't, especially not in non IM
niches. Some of these people can just about turn on their PCs, check their
      email and MAYBE use Word.

So let me ask...is this a non IM niche?

        Yep, non IM.

But given that they have an email address is probably enough info for them to understand how to check their inbox I think. Particularly when you show them in steps and screenshots.

I guess Les is right, people want the info right there and then and only the really hungry people will take the "effort" to check their inbox (or heaven forbid, their junk folder!).

Oops, just reread the post, and my question was answered. Nothing to see here

There are also the people with overactive spam filters, who may not see your opt in e-mail -- and so can't actually reply to it!

Well my fist list is pure internet marketers so shame on YOU'S for contradicting yourselves! HAHAHA

Getresponse says I have 40 uncomfirmed subscribers but I can still send them messages, how does this work?

Well I can't speak for everybody, but personally I've signed up for info in the past, when I wasn't doing too much, and might have half an interest in it.
If the autoresponder takes forever to respond, the moment has been lost.
I'm probably busy again when it turns up.

Yep my unconfirmed rate is about 50%, there is definitely a war being waged for peoples attention these days. Could be a delay in receiving a confirmation link to their inbox and they forget all about it 10 minutes later.

How about people who reply to the confirmation message saying "I confirm" or "Add me to your list"?

Is it that hard to click the link?
