How to create a revenue stream from online subscriptions?

I have a news site and I'd like to hear some advises on how to do implement a smart subscription system
for a frictionless payment experience for your readers. As well if someone know any software to do this job?
Is there any software that does helps with metering, segmented content, and topic-based packages -
that will convert your most engaged readers into paid subscribers without turning away casual visitors?

    For best results with a paid membership site charge a yearly subscription fee.

    If you charge a monthly subscription fee, you'll spend most of your time replacing members instead of adding them.

    Also, for software you should try aMember Pro or the WishList Member WordPress plugin.

    My best suggestion would be to use Wordpress, Paypal and either Magic Members or Wishlist Member.

    interesting to hear the yearly subscription, instead of monthly ... I have been thinking about doing this with a script i created to audit / scan websites for problems. Instead of $10 a month and always fighting for members making it $120 a year and they get 1 scan per month kind of thing ...
