Google showing different results when you set results per page to 100

When you set google to show 100 results per page it shows quite different results.
For sites that it used to show just 1 page in the top 10 when left to show 10 results per page, now it shows few internal pages as well.

It does this multiple listing for quite few of the results that used to have just one page listed before.
It looks like it spreads out some of the results when set to show 100 results per page.

Have you noticed that and why do you think it is?

never noticed that in particular. but what I've noticed though is that, mainly for quoted searches, the results are WAY smaller when you display 100 results per page and click on the last page. it can go from 150,000 quoted results to 200. I don't really understand why actually but that makes a pretty big difference for sure.

If you set Google search to display 100 results instead of 10, you are not giving their server time to sort them out, you are rushing the search results therefore.

Google servers can't handle 100 results at once?
      are you serious?

Google has numerous data centers and there are many factors (one of which is search traffic) that determine in which data center your query will be sent.

When you request a 100 -results-per-page display, your query is sent to a DC that is not frequently updated (since most web users do not access search results uptill 100th result). Google says it's pretty normal to see slight difference in search results depending on which data center handles your query.

Results are similar, but all the includes of videos etc. occupy different places. Also double results (i.e. two in a row from one domain) take different places. Which all brings a bit of mess.

The reason for the differences in listed site pages is due to sampling size algorithms. Analyzing, comparing, and rating to extract the top 10 pages creates one end result, while the sum of calculations for 100 pages of results creates an end result that may contain variances based on that sampling size.

However, outside of marketers, students, researchers and the like, I think there are few search users who even consider taking the time to expand the search result pages.
