What is are the biggest challenges that you have found to actually get people to opt-in to your list?

It's quite hard to answer, because one often doesn't know the reason for which people decide not to opt in ...

From my perspective, I suspect that "losing the confirmation" when you build confirmed opt-in lists is quite high on the list, though. (Less so in some niches than in others, of course). I have 5 single opt-in lists and only 3 confirmed opt-in, and I do sometimes wonder with hindsight if I might have got away with single opt-in for a couple of those as well. It can make a really big difference.

Call me a skepchick but I don't for a moment accept the "theory" that people who don't confirm "wouldn't ever have bought anyway".

If you give something of real value, people will opt-in.

If you have established trust with them, then it makes it a lot easier to.

Once you have them opted-in, continue to provide high quality information and never overload them with a bunch of spam and/or affiliate links.

    Just my 2 cents
