Using the Social Media...

I know I need to start putting my site on social media sites so I'm getting into that, but I've never been entirely clear as to how it works.

Should I post the same content on my Facebook page as I do on my blog? So when I create a new post on my blog, should I immediately go over and post the same thing on my Facebook page?

In the same vein, what kind of content should I post on Twitter and should it be different from say what I write on Facebook?

This question has really been keeping me from getting into these mediums for awhile, so I would REALLY appreciate some intelligent answers here, thanks so much guys!

Share all of your blog posts on as many social networks as you can with "Social Marker" or "Only Wire", but make sure and mix up where you post so as not to look suspicious. I tend to post to Twitter and Facebook separately because with Twitter I am using bit.ly links and posting a lot of @mentions, and Facebook because I don't want to go overkill on my friends. I use "Socialoomph" to schedule updates for Facebook and Twitter. "Posterous" is also very popular for posting on multiple social networks.

Good info. So you're saying maybe I should send a new post on my blog only to maybe half of the social sites which "Only Wire" (which I use) offers and then send the other half the next post I make so as to not just put the same content on every single service "Only Wire" sends to?

OR should I send the same post to both halves of "Only Wire's" list but send one half a post one day, then the other half the next, kind of spacing them out?

And you're saying I should send even less to Facebook as to not overwhelm the friends I have at my account with updates?

I'd only be updating Facebook once a day for every time I make a new post so I can't imagine that'd be an issue but I'd LOVE to hear some more opinions on all of this.

I don't split up individual blog posts. When posting to the social networks just make it really random, not necessarily just half and half. I do a few here and a few there over the course of months. We are trying to create a long term business here so patience will pay off. Honestly Facebook is it's own beast and I don't really use it for link building. Maybe somebody can better help you with that. From your original post it sounds like you are trying to build links with social bookmarking and for that Only Wire is amazing. I have a majority of the accounts supported by Only Wire but I don't really use Facebook.
