Number Crunchers: Who Lost In Google's "Farmer" Algorithm Change?



I've always written articles for syndication instead of rankings but I am still going to get hurt big time by this.

When you post your articles on Ezine, ArticlesBase, AssociatedContent, you still have the benefit of people finding your article due to them reading someone's optimized article that originally brought them to the directory.

Now, with the loss of people coming to the main directory via Google the people that didn't write for rankings are still gong to get hurt.

Some articles I wrote would give me 100 views 24 hours after they were posted. I doubt the 100 views came from people typing "ezinearticles.com" into the url bar and searching for content.

I am sure a lot of my views came from people that found my articles because they came to the site via the Google ranking of another article in the same niche.

It's going to be interesting submitting articles this week to see how big of a drop my views have. According to the link posted, all of our favorite sites got hammered.

Syndication or not, I loved the influx of visitors I received from these sites 24-48 hours after posting an article. I have a big feeling these numbers are going to be drastically reduced.

Maybe it's time to try media buys.

    It was always amazing how much weight Ezine got from Google when a great deal of content there is downright spam-esque.

      The thing I am hoping for is that Ezine really cuts out on the crap. I hope they don't accept articles under 400-500 words. I hope they don't accept review articles.

      Just maybe those of us who play the game the right way will be rewarded if they do this. I saw there is also talk of less ads which would increase our on ctr. I'd be more inclined to spend even more time on quality content if they did this.

      I guess this goes to show time and time again that we shouldn't put all of our eggs in one basket.

        There is nothing wrong with accepting review articles, as long as they are actual, factual reviews and not rewritten pre-sell copy off the sals page, which most of them are. I do agree you on the article length, however. Even GoArticles won't accept articles under 300 words, and a lot of sites that I submit to even deman at least 500 words. Some even 600!

        As for a big drop in numbers, I have not noticed any difference, and many of my articles have actually risen in the rankings.

        As a matter of fact, and I have said this several times, I've actually started making more money since the algo change.

        Honestly, I don't think it's anything to worry about for anybody. If you were writing quality 400-500 articles and submitting them to the top 150 directories like I was, then I wouldn't worry at all. One of those articles is still going to rank well somewhere.

          I want the one that ranks well to be the one on my own site, not an article directory copy. Fortunately, with all the article directory copies being on non-context-relevant, PR-0 pages, that's a very easy outcome to arrange.

        Buzzle only accepted unique quality content and they got hit as well.

      Google Adwords is the best traffic I've ever had. Even though I was paying for traffic, I was making triple the amount I make with article marketing.

      However, I was banned when everyone else was. My name isn't Amazon, FedEx, Coca Cola, Ford, etc...so there wasn't much use for me.

        James respectfully I think you need to WIDEN your view sir.

        This is the place where people make 5-6 and yes dare I say even 7 and 8 figures monthly. Now surely as you look around the JV deals , listbuilding info and WSOs (but look carefully there you could lose your wallet)

        You can find another 3-7 strategies to compensate.

    These changes are very interesting to me. Very interesting indeed. For those that may be negative, you should realize that for every page that falls in the SERPS, there is a new on that has to take it's place. You just need to find the reason WHY.

      I think it's a great thing. It's crazy how much control Google has, but there's nothing we can do about it. People that were producing great content will have a huge advantage in the coming months.
