Am I heading down the right path

Hi

My name is Reece and I’m 18 and just finished college and planning to go down the road of the online business so that maybe one day I won’t have to work 9 till 5 for the rest of my life.

But I’m still very new to this online marketing, and I’m a bit stuck in what direction I'm heading in. because I don’t want to be selling products like many people already do, because I believe that offering a service will be more beneficial in the long run. But my problem is I don’t know what type of service to offer.

It should be one that large numbers of people already want to buy, and one for which you have the requisite skills to be able to provide it well enough for your clients to return for more and to recommend your services to others (otherwise you end up being nearly a full-time marketer anyway, because you'll always need to replace all your customers).

What marketable skills do you have, in this context?

Nobody can really advise you much, without knowing this, I think?

(Please excuse the observation that I wouldn't want to be a service provider, myself: I see it as really creating just a "job for yourself" rather than a business, per se. And to me, that's a whole different world - I started out as a service provider myself - also when I was 18 - but was delighted to give it up when I was 19.)

well I think I’m alright at writing since I’ve already done some Squidoo
lenses that worked out alright, but I haven’t continued to do them because I didn’t feel they were going to be that good in the long run money wise.

I’ve also studied a two year course in business studies and got a A* but it didn’t involve much about online marketing.

    Hi Reece

So are you asking if you should offer a service or sell products?

    Personally I do both.

The advantage of having your own products is that you do the work once and get paid for life.

Be careful not to get too hypnotised by all the 'GURU' products otherwise you will spend a lot of money and time and get no where ... this happens to a lot of people

UNTIL YOU ARE SURE MY BEST ADVICE IS TO STUDY WHAT OTHER SUCCESSFUL MARKETERS DO (NOT WHAT THEY SAY - there is a difference)

Then find a model that works for you

A simple business model is this

Create an information product about something you know ...
Build a site to sell it on
    Drive traffic manually at first
If it converts well recruit affiliates
Create upsells and bank end offers

In the mix of all this you MUST build a list.

Finally bud don't spend money you do not have, stay in school and get all your qualifications as a back up ...

    Play nice

    Hey Reece,

As Bernard mentioned having both business models would be great as you would be getting income from multiple sources.

The thing is, right now your a newbie and so you will need to go through a process of learning while you create your new ideas.

Use the Warrior Forum to gather ideas but try not to absorb too much information at once because you don't want information overload.

Go through the process of testing ideas out, maybe try a little bit of affiliate marketing to see if you like it or not. In the mean time you could be gathering ideas for a service you could provide or a product you could create.

In this business it takes time to see results but if you keep at it you will be rewarded.

    What are your strengths?
    What are your weaknesses?
Can you apply these strengths to an online business?
Can you offer a service with these strengths?

You're at a good age to learn this business. One step at a time my man.

I too would recommend selling products over services for the bulk of your eventual "passive income." But if you have a skill that you thoroughly enjoy, then offering that service can also be a great additional income source.

Good for you for planning ahead now so you're not stuck on the hamster wheel forever.

Is there something you'd like to talk about every day for the next couple of years?

It doesn't have to be for the rest of your life...just right now.

But if you pick this topic out, you'll have something that will automatically put a smile on your face, get you out of bed in the morning, and wanting to take action and promote.

Many choices are in front of you. The only ones that are "wrong" are the ones you'll dislike talking about all day.

Get in there, mix it up and start learning.
