Viral Marketing Case Study?

Yo,

It's Caleb here... Whats up guys? I wanted to do an example of some viral marketing here, the other day I saw what was dubbed to be the "worst song ever", which is "It's Friday" but a young girl "Rebecca Black".

But what was insane was the view count, 83 MILLION VIEWS, Insane. In the first month it only got 1k or something like that... It's amazing what happens when someone tells there friends, they tell a friend, and so it goes on.

And now she's an international sensation... You know what else is cool? She brought every body else up, all videos posted by that publisher, have hit a couple hundred thousand views... it's amazing what happens when people tell there friends.

Here's the video for those wondering:

It's amazing what happens when things go Viral, it's something that I've been discussing a lot lately, and really interests me... You know, how just the one friend model really works.

Thoughts?

Peace,

Caleb ~ The Maestro ~

A successful viral marketing campaign can easily build a brand... Remember the homeless guy with the huge radio voice a few months ago that got a big contract?

Just goes to show that with a little work and a little luck you can easily get the results you really want...

    Cheers

This just shows the power of the internet and it will just keep growing.

Just in the past couple of years, you have seen these people become famous (Practically overnight) because of Youtube:

The homeless guy (Ted Williams Golden Voice)
      Justin Bieber
      Rebecca Black

Crazy what happened with these people

viral marketing is fun to learn about.

there is something called the network effect in economics where the more people that use the product the more value it has.

Since everyone was watching Rebecca's video, then everyone else had to and it just became more and more powerful.

Yeah but that went viral because people are making fun of it. A lot of things go viral when it's making fun of something but that doesn't necesarrily translate into dollars.

However, in your example like you said, it has helped the other tween bubble gum pop that company is tossing out.

    EDIT:

I did some research and it appears that it has made her about 20k and a recording contract. The later may not be that big of a deal as anyone can own a record company. A friend of mines dad does and he has two clients. Neither making money.

Yeah. The first week that video went viral the negative comments were flying as fast as Twitter comments -- faster, even! I left a comment supporting the girl, and it got swallowed within micro seconds.

And what's funny -- there were several video replies slamming her for being a bad singer, some getting millions of views, but none of them bothered to put up Google ads.

So who's partying on Friday now?
