When getting advice in forums ...

This might be geared towards those who are new in IM are looking for
advice by posting websites and asking about a particular strategy.

It is always good to get a second opinion but also keep in mind that
often those who respond are not in your target market. For example,
I've seen many people say that they "hate" from red headlines to long
sales letters, to online video and the list goes on.

The question is "What does your target market love?"

A lot of marketers who give advice are already "shell shocked" from all
the marketing messages they have read and have forgotten how
engaging a message was when they first started.

I could still remember the first ebook I bought online, I read every word
of that sales letter and was floored by "all those bonuses".

Would I react the same way today? No! But that doesn't mean that
the letter is any less effective, just that I am not the ideal customer.

That's why IM who go outside of the IM world to market are surprised
by the results they get because these markets are not exposed to all
the 'marketing gimmicks' that the typical Warrior is exposed to.

What we love or don't love may have nothing to do with what works.
(Of course someone will say that's why you should TEST.)

Even with a 5% conversion rate 95% of the people didn't buy so no
website will pass the popularity test. Listen to your potential customers
more than any other expert.
