Does anyone use a good alternative to PayPal on their web sites?

PayPal says they with hold 20% of my account as a reserve, but they're now holding over 90% of my balance. I've used PayPal for about 5 to 7 years, but this reserve thing has gotten out of hand within the past year.

There's at least 3 recent threads about this here, and they give some great alternatives. I use Amazon Payments, which is pretty good.

      Thanks for the info.

I use Amazon to sell books, but didn't realize they might offer a payment gate for my web site.

      Is this correct?

Try Google Checkout or Amazon Payments. I believe the fees are all the same or pretty close. Only a matter of cents. PayPal definitely has much more users though.

I stopped using PayPal about 18 months ago for various reasons, including many complaints from my buyers. I switched to Google Checkout and I'm very pleased. They take a while to test a new users integrity and business practices. But after about two weeks, I now have direct deposits of all available funds (two-day lapse).

I don't know that any of the services are perfect, but I like Google Checkout a whole lot better than PayPal.

Well, depends what you are looking to accomplish and why not use PayPal? They have pretty low fees. Did you try contacting them? They have a toll free number and are generally pretty helpful. Also, did you verify your account? Generally holds are higher on non-verified accounts. You might always want to look at upgrading your membership. I guess those holds also depend on where you live but alternatives to consider are PayDotCom.com but this uses PayPal for payment processing but PDC also allows you to recruit affiliates!

There's so many alternatives but again it depends on what you're looking to accomplish.

ClickBank- is the most widely used payment processor for digital goods but vendors are bound to give refunds on demand.

E-junkie- Also the same as above but without the outrageous administration fees.

Plimus- They are an alternative but I don't recommend them simply because payments are mostly done manually and when I buy something digital online, I want it now, not hours or days later. I've never used them as a vendor but I don't like them when buying stuff.

CJ- Never used them as a vendor but they're one of the best online processors and you can also recruit affiliates.

If you want to have full administration of taxes and such, ClickBank is your best bet as they are the ones who purchase your product and re-sell them but their fees are rather high IMO but is well worth it.

    Hope this helps

If you are new to Paypal, they will hold the money initially. This is to make sure you ship the item to the buyer and not take their money and run away. If you use the shipping service provided by paypal, it will help. Also, if you tell them your bank account and also provide credit card information, they will lift the reserve.

Google Checkout. They will only become more popular.
