Is paypal payments pro worth it?

I seem to loose a lot of customers after they enter there info and are directed to the payment page on paypal.

Do you guys get more sales when taking the credit card on your website or on paypals site?

It depends on where you're advertising. If you're trying to sell something on Craigslist for example, they might not know what PayPal is (weird I know) and would leave the site instead.

Whereas if you're selling to the IM crowd or Warriors, they'll pretty much all be secure with PayPal and probably even prefer it to entering sensitive information onto your website.

If it isn't IM, then conversions are absolutely better when you accept payment on your site - it is a trust factor. Tried it, tested it, tried it again. It can be a large factor. But it also costs you on a monthly basis. Doesn't matter that you have 0 sales for the month, you still pay.

Thanks guys my customers are definately not internet savvy. I think it will pay off to pay the $30 dollars a month.
I used to think you had to have a paypal account to use paypal.

You used to have to have a paypal account to use paypal! Paypal pro has two ways of working. As I recall, BOTH require CODE. One requires an SSL CERT. So not every person, and not every account, can use it.

I am very familiar with this CODE and have been using an ssl for collecting users data for almost year.

I just wanted to know if you guys get more sales when you collect credit card data directly on your website's.

OK, I didn't mean to insult. I just wanted to make it clear. Frankly I, for one, like the idea that paypal can keep my number hidden and provide funding to others. I ALSO know who they are, so I can deal with websites I otherwise may not. So I COULD see it increasing sales. WILL IT? That depends on YOUR audience.

The nice thing about using PayPal is that many people perceive their PayPal balance as "play" money and if they DO already have money in their account they will be more likely to spend it!

very true, so if you are a merchant, it is best if you can offer both.
An interesting thing, I saw substantial gains in Paypal transactions after adding credit card processing.

Think link liberation teaches that using the paypal service that is not self contained on your website loses about 25% more sales then a regular merchant account.

Also paypals upgraded merchant account is a bit expensive compared to other soultions like major banks, but it does make bookkeeping easier then many of the thiord party solutions

As I recall, the discount isn't that bad, and $30/month is CHEAP compared to many. Many charge you like $30 for the account, and you need to spend like another $20 for the gateway.

Its always best to get that money FIRST, then once they buy, redirect them to a registration page so they can create an account or whatever.

Plus, that will build you a nice buyers list! Nothing better than that!
