I have some domains forwarding to affiliate offers, but 9 times out of 10, the page gets and error and doesn't load the proper affiliate offer..

This happening to anyone else.. I feel like I'm losing sales from this..

I dislike godaddy. I use namecheap to buy my domains and hostgator to host them. I have used tripod in the past too.

Ive had that problem with GoDaddy also. Are you setting the forwarding within GoDaddy?

When i set the forwarding within Hostgator there was no problem. Just set the name servers to your hosting account then forward it to your URL from there instead, then it should be ok.

I recommend contacting GoDaddy by phone , if possible, and have them walk you through your forwards to set them up right. We've used GoDaddy for years, still do, and their forwards, sites, etc. work fine. You may just need to tweak how you have the forwards set up, that's all.

This is BS, there is a big thread on godaddy about this issue, apparently there is something going on with godaddy's dns stuff.

I hope this gets resolved, I had to change my affiliate links for the time being..

      • Yup, for the last 2 weeks I couldn't figure out why I wasn't making any sales. I went 500+ hops without a single sale. And before I was making a sale about 1:50

I checked my links in Aweber, and there was a message saying my links weren't working. So I've changed them to the direct clickbank url for the time being.

Probs lost about $250 but it's my own stupidity for taking so long to realise!

Never use GD for hosting, they are horrible. Only use them for domains (and even then, I only suggest it now because they have a lot of promotions that make them cheap).

What you need to do is get a cheap hosting plan and point your domains from GD at your hosting plan with another company. Then set your domains to redirect at your web host instead of at GD.

I use hostgator for hosting, superb quality imo, although I have had my issues with them as well they usually fix my concerns in a timely manner.

I just participated in the thread and got my domains working again, I don't know how, but they now work 100% of the time. I really hope this is a permanent fix as the admin in the thread stated they will now cease to have problems loading properly.

I am NOT going to hold my breath though, I had like 200 hits during this down time

I've been using Godaddy for about a dozen, and have not had any problem. But I have not used their forwarding services for some time, so it may be an issue.

I was a victim of this GD issue - My site depends on full exposure and for a whole day or so it was not accessible in parts of the world and really put a stall in results from it

It seems to be working fine now - I dont use GD for hosting - only for domains and forwarding

      Has this happened before?

thanks for reminding me im not alone in the vast sea we call the internet

Yes, late last night and until this afternoon my sites wouldn't forward and I had a few people email that they wanted to buy my product, but couldn't get my site up, so I ended up losing a sale or two because of it but everything seems to be working fine now.

When I got my domain name with Hostgator I was going nuts trying to set it up with no success? After 3 days I called them and it turned out that they called me and I said yes I set up the account but they still refunded my credit card as if it was spam or something?

They reset up my sight but again I could not get it to take my domain name. I searched on Namecheap and saw my domain was still available

Called HostGator again and they were "Oh Ooops ", Luckily I got my name but it took a week to get things settled.

I hear people have bad experiences with GoDaddy, not unlike the issue you are speaking about. IDK how common this is, as I am partial to HostGator, but with all the bad press GoDaddy and their CEO get, I wouldn't give them my money regardless of the kind of service.

I've never had an issue with HostGator for hosting, but I don't use them for domain registration or forwarding. I've had two pretty bad experiences with Godaddy's hosting and one with trying for forward a domain. It was a long-time ago though and I'm sorry some of you lost sales because of the issue.

I've had the same problem in the past. I recommend buying domains from GoDaddy, but hosting with HostGator. It's quick and easy and I've never had a problem with HostGator redirects.

I buy lots of domains. If you do too, I highly recommend using their option to join the domain club. I get my domains for only 7.59 instead of almost 11.00 now. They renew at $7.59 too.
I think I paid $89 to join that.

      Hope this helps!
      Hugs,
      Kristi

HAD to chime in on THIS one! Like many others I use Godaddy for my domain purchases and Hostgator for my hosting. I agree with the majority that this is a GREAT combo!! Hostgator provides great support when you need it and I am sure we ALL do at times. Godaddy's support on the other hand SUCKS if you have a real problem and it exists on their end. They will lie and blame the problem on ANYTHING other than themselves. Doing some research on good old Google will paint this picture clear for their support!

I found this thread doing some research for a new (to me anyways) problem I found out I was have a few days ago that relates to the OP's problems. I just started using Godaddy's "forwarding" service a couple of months ago and after initially testing the redirects, I never really checked them again. I setup approximately 20 of these redirects for some SEO campaigns we are working on and with the web properties not ranking high enough yet, I paid little attention to the hits on these domains. Bad mistake, but a lesson learned.......AGAIN!

Upon checking my domains a few days ago, I found NONE of them forwarding!! They would all just error out. Called Godaddy only to spend over an hour of my time with them, to be told there was not a problem and that it must be my IP, among a dozen or so other reasons that I immediately shot down. The only reason I found out about this when I did, was because my partner and I put out a flyer campaign for an offer that should have generated an easy 500-1000 visits with the amount of flyers we HANDED out, people were excited about the offer on the flyers so we definitely should have seen some great traffic from our efforts. How many visitors did we get from ALL of that hard work...................ZERO!

We could not understand what the hell happened, until we tested our domain and NOTHING would come up. So I naturally check the configuration in my account for the domain, everything is perfect. I test the other 20 or so domains I had setup to forward. NONE of them worked for over 4 hours of testing, then of COURSE when I get on the phone with Godaddy they start "intermittently" working. The support tech was giving me all kinds of crazy possibilities as to why this was happening, most of them just plain ridiculous! I know of 3 other marketers with campaigns out their with forwarded domains through Godaddy, so I go and check their redirects.........SAME thing, theirs are all working "intermittently" as well. Bottom line Godaddy HAS a big issue in this department but god forbid they admit it to their customers!

Another thing I have realized through all of this is that most of the time WHEN they do work, it is VERY slow to do the redirect. Slow enough I am SURE a lot of people would just hit the back button before waiting for it to actually load a fricken page.

Doing some heavy research today in Google, I find that this has been a HUGE problem with Godaddy for several years off and on. If you do some research yourself, you will see that people have been complaining and having problems with domains being forwarded through Godaddy for a long time and Godaddy just skirts around the issue. Hell I found one article with a Godaddy employee basically saying that their forwarding option is free bonus for their customers, as if to justify it not working half the time!!

My sincere advice, DON'T use Godaddy for forwarding your domains!! I am going to take others advice from this thread and change my nameservers at Godaddy and handle the redirects with Hostgator!!

Thanks Warriors for giving me a place to rant and I TRULY hope this post helps somebody avoid this PAINFUL lesson to learn!!

      JimK

Godaddy is one of the best registrars around but seem to have issues with their hosting related products.
Understand these are outsourced to Spain and other countries. I could be wrong but that's what my ping info described.
Have had serious security related issues with this product on Godaddy labelled servers
