Thank you for reporting these potential thieves. Hopefully, the law will punish them, and they won't act in a way that can hurt others livelihood in the future.

As a result of what they are doing,
if no action is taken against them..
anybody will now have the right to copy anything from anyone else.

This is a very serious issue and I call upon all my fellow Internet Marketers to take action against such a site.

This would mean you are open to the concept of plagiarism
and thus any laws for it should be banished.

Or you mean that it is okay for anyone and everyone to just
start copy pasting any articles they like
and putting in on their own websites and blogs.

          How does this sound?

That's the attitude that has allowed these creeps to inundate the net. Anyone who sees their material being heisted should at least feel the obligation to report them to their servers. It's really exasperating to see people putting special links in books just so they can get some clicks from the people who buy or download them from thieves. Is that even a slight clue that we need to start giving a rip?

Hi...Thanks so much for your positive response.
There are so many people who are trying to earn
            an honest income online...
and these kind of sites should not be tolerated.

we must all be united and take action.

The best thing you could do now though Veena is to get that letter they sent you and a screen shot of the new one they nicked (and proof of the other if you have it) and send it straight to Hostgator without fail.

I've had people thieve my stuff and if they refuse to do as I politely ask, that's exactly what I do and once reported, you can just count down and watch the person who stole your articles site vanish.

              Most satisfying.

Sadly it's a very dificult thing to stop. Just like stealing is off the web.

I fully understand what you're saying and that's why I go to town with anyone stealing my stuff and advise anyone to do the same.

I've found tons of my articles on sites over the years and I remember one idiot trying to tell me I was going to have to pay him to get my articles taken off his web site lol and then he had the balls to send me a bill for it. This banter went back and forth for a bit, while I was waiting for his web host to answer me. The guy just thought I was joking around and wasn't taking me serious. Anyway I was fortunate to have a friend who was a lawyer, give him a two min call and scare the crap out of him.

I found one of my articles on EzineArticles.com once with someone elses name attached to it and the link changed and was pretty choked at them since it still had my name in the content of the article, a name of a book I co-authored with another marketer (it was like how to article) and I was wondering, how the heck they could approve that? I even had to bicker back and forth with them about it. And ever since then I refuse to use their service. Someone reemed me out about complaining, but IMHO it's their obligation to ensure the content on their site is not stolen.

I use digiprove on my site now too, since people don't seem to understand the concept of what copyright is and means.

I know how frustrating it is to have your articles stolen in this way, with no backlink being credited - it has happened to me a few times.

After the initial indignation and feeling of unjustness, I quickly assessed how much of my time I would be in danger of losing if I chased this much further to get them to stop.

While it is really annoying to see, I try to take the most time-efficient view of how I could spend my time - to largely ignore it and make better use of our marketing elsewhere and focus on getting our marketing (of which some is articles and blog posts) published elsewhere in as many different and powerful ways and sites as possible - thereby getting the visitors and backlinks we are after.

It is a personal decision and that is up to you - we just decided to take the quick steps to stop the site (emailed them and contacted Google about it) and left it at that - then focusing on maximising our marketing that *does* get us the most traffic and backlinks

It's not really easy to write your own articles and it takes time as well as your effort to be able to produce a good write-up. How can they even dare to do such things? They should be punished. Thanks for this information, I will also make some actions about this.

If that site's WHOIS contact details are correct, they're based in Vietnam. Legal
action can only take you so far, more so if you're trying to enforce a decision vs
someone based in another part of the world.

Just do what you can. And file that DMCA at Hostgator since their site seems to

      Hi David:

thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate your time and trouble taken in replying.

but this is not just to do with me...
this is a trend that is being set...

      this means that now...

everyone can freely cut copy paste articles
that do not belong to them -

and nothing can be done about it.

    You just found one site.

There are thousands of sites who copies articles and infact google does an ok job on pushing these sites into supplementry listing.

I agree with David. Filing a DMCA complaint with their host probably the best way to see some result. If the site is hosted offshore, then forget it and move on.

I understand your concern. That's why I mentioned there are hundreds of these types of sites that scrape content. It is really hard hunt down each of these sites.

This reminds of the adult tube sites. When people started posting copyright DVD movies on these illegal tubes, the adult content producers started fighting. But after two years the Tubes are still there and many big legal adult sites have gone out of business.

The point is, it is hard to track down every site that steal content and even if you do you can't get them all shut down. So if a particular article or site is hurting your business go after them. If everyone does this, it can help.

But you are right. These theifs should atleast get their site deindexed from google.

Oh boy, one more thing to be aware of and it IS important. As I think about it now it's silly tat I haven't paid attention before, but I haven't. That changes now and from reading this thread I now know to report the plagiarism to the hosting company.

You are absolutely correct that each of us needs to take action. Is it a time commitment? Yes but it's just a cost of doing business and if each of us chooses to opt out of that responsibility the criminals learn there are no consequences - they win.

    Thanks for making me aware.

If you have proof the article is yours (I am in no way questioning this) send the proof to their host. No lawyers needed .. hosting companies will close them down in less than a week if they do not comply for the fact .. they do not need the problems this can bring them.

It is cheaper for the host to discontinue service than to fight you on the matter and once you have contacted the host .. they are the ones liable .. not that I am a lawyer but I am a long time article writer who got tired of doing the work and letting the criminal low lives reap the rewards.

What may also be happening here is that these are low-grade unmoderated article directories or blog networks and third-party 'marketers' submitting lifted content wholesale just for some shoddy link juice. Even harder to catch, let alone when they do spinning on it... Fight it by all means but you will barely make a dent in the problem...

Have you actually contacted Hostgator about this yet?

Respectfully, this thread was started earlier and by post 32, 9 hours after you'd started it, you still hadn't contacted them.

You are very nicely rallying support but so far you are the only person that has found them to be using your articles and has proof. You need to contact Hostgator and do something about this instead of being here.

Forgive me for sounding harsh but whilst we're talking about all the people's articles be used, the directory is still getting away with it. This is a lovely conversation taking place but I see no action being taken.

I can't report them as I can't find any of my stuff on there, you, however, can and should.

      I cannot fight this alone
and I am not doing this for my own sake..
all of us will suffer if this is allowed.
Yes you can. It's very simple, contact Hostgator and tell them with the proof of what's happened because if you don't, we will sit here discussing this until we go blue in the face whilst that mob sit there getting away with this.

Again forgive me for my tone but this isn't currently going anywhere.

          No Veena,

You have completely misconstrued what I've written.

All I'm saying is you have the power, with the proof you have and Davezan very kindly finding out they are hosted with Hostgator to actually prevent them from doing this.

It would take 5 minutes to report this to their host.

I wasn't being rude, all I'm trying to do is get some action going.

It's all well and good reporting it here but what's the point if we're not going to do anything about it?

I'm just saying, if this was me, I'd have got the evidence and reported it to them straight away.

I can't go to Hostgator and say "I went to a forum and saw someone else had their work stolen by this directory". You, however, can. You have actual evidence and I'm just trying to encourage you to take action on it.

I assure you I wasn't being rude and I apologise if you felt I was.

Hostgator need someone to send them a DMCA notice. They've just said I can't send one to them as my content has already been removed. They say to email abuse@hostgator.com or to follow the advise here Sample Copyright Complaint Steps

I am surprised this thread has survived this long.

I almost reported it last night for violating Rule #1.

Then I entered page two just now to see the "dueling farts in the wind", and that got really old really quickly.

The light at the end of the rainbow was knowing that YOU were the last comment in the thread. I knew that if I scrolled to the end of the thread, wiser people would have something to say.

Then I entered page two just now to see the "dueling farts in the wind", and that got really old really quickly.

The light at the end of the rainbow was knowing that YOU were the last comment in the thread. I knew that if I scrolled to the end of the thread, wiser people would have something to say.

feel free to report it o master of "dueling farts in the wind"...
no wonder our society is filled with crime...

coz people like u cannot stand up and fight for what is right.

                        report me!!!

Rule #1 in the WF is that if you have a problem with a guru, company, person or another warrior, don't post it here.

There are valid reasons for that, which your ego will not let you see.

And from your ranting in the last three posts, you have absolutely no idea who you are talking to and what kind of behavior any of these fine folks condone or what they are willing to defend.

You can diss me all you want, because I am more than happy to diss on you, but the other fellows have earned a lot more respect than what you are giving them or what you -- with your current behavior -- will ever gain in these hallowed halls.

Both are fine men, with outstanding character. Of course, you don't know that, because you have never looked beyond your own self-interest here in the forum.

p.s. You have absolutely no idea what I will stand up and fight for... Which further points to the ignorance of your behavior...

It says right in their TOS to report any articles that users submit that aren't their own and they'll delete them. Terms and Conditions

Just contact them and have them take off your content. Not sure why you're throwing such a hissy about this. It's just an article directory that requires users register and submit articles so if your article is on there, a member grabbed it and submitted it. I'm sure the site will delete it asap if you report it. If you're goal is to try to get the site shut down as a result, good luck... and even if you succeeded, there's a hundred more article directories that will popup today, doing the same thing.

If you check out the site, it can be assumed that it is whoever is running the directory that is doing the plagiarizing and not other users of the site. There are several articles that have been copied from other directories without keeping the original author's links intact. All that is there is just the Adsense around the content, which the owner of this site would be using for his own personal gains.

By going the legal route the only ones who win are the lawyers. Why not fight fire with fire.

Write an article/expose about this site. Send it out to as many other article sites exposing them. Send out a press release. Hit them where it hurts, their bottom line/subscriber base.

What you want is put them on the defensive position.

veenafurtado, I'm curious, have you reported them yet?

If you have already reported here that you did I apologize for asking but it's hard to follow when there's a bunch of nonsense post, especially in a serious thread.

I looked at the site and read a few articles that had a Author Resource box with an URL and others that did not. But, none of my articles are there so nothing I can do.

Just another thing to watch out for, many of these slimeballs simply piece meal an article together by using a paragraph from one article and then finding other articles on the same subject and stealing a paragraph from that. On top of this, they spin their Frankenstein article which, as you can imagine, is barely readable.

Edited to add: Article Alley is very guilty of this and I'm of a mind to report them for their crap as well.

Maybe one reason for the seeming discourse here is what precisely do you want
or expect people in this forum to do, Veena. If your goal is to inform, then thank
      you.

      But.

But if your other goal is to...what, get people to take down all jerks like that one,
unfortunately you might just needlessly frustrate yourself. Honestly, you seem to
be upset at those who don't seemingly appreciate or agree with you.

I doubt that anyone here is necessarily against you, though. As an FYI, things like
this is one reason why the forum rule #1 exists.

If anything, people here have learned to leverage or manage their time dealing
with stuff like that. Rather than complain about it in an online forum, they just
document their issue/s, report it to the appropriate authorities, maybe share in
here how they handled it, then return to their usual routine.

Try not to take this personally, Veena. Some folks are just trying to offer a few
other ways to look at this.

The OP is missing the big picture, as described in part in this story:
Cooks Source Magazine Creates Mud Pie Recipe For Online Authors - from Website 101

The accused website is an article directory, which does house articles that I have written.

However, when I do article marketing, I take measures of self-protection. I always include the plain text version of my url with the articles' resource box to ensure that anyone who does not take the html code for my article will still have my url with the article.

    For example:

This article is written by Bill Platt, of www.mysite.com
While the article directory owner has stripped the html out of the resource box, my URL appears with every article I have written that appears on that website.

Technically, it may be difficult to enforce the inclusion of a hot link with the resource box, if an author was to ever take the site owner to court for copyright violation, and more so when the offending website is owned by folks in Vietnam.

The only people who seem to be getting screwed by this article directory are those folks who were only including Keywords in their Anchor Text.

I don't believe that the OP's accusation rises to the level of the defined legal meaning of Plagiarism, and as far as Copyright Infringement, that is a can of worms.
