What Converts Better: Traditional Info Product or Membership?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and was hoping someone could give me their opinion and/or experience. I really like both business models of selling an information product through a sales letter and of creating and selling memberships. I can't decide which would be better for me, and obviously, the higher-converting, long-term higher paying model would be preferred.

It seems to me like an information product through a sales letter would create more impulse buys, while a membership site would involve more preselling through free content, mixed with private member content the free content reader would have to subscribe to for access. Although, I have seen membership sites with just a sales page...

I guess I am confused then as to what tactic is better, a pre-selling site with good free content and an offer of a membership or one-time info product, or, just a good sales page/squeeze page?

I really hope the above made some sense, I still have big gaps in my IM education. I'm debating between purchasing either Membernaire(for memberships) or Overnight Product Creation(for info products) from Brian McElroy. Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Marin

You're comparing apples to oranges. You're going to have some people who
will never join membership sites and some people who will only join them and
then you'll have people who will buy info products and join sites.

There is no such thing as which converts better between the two.

    There is only...

Which membership site will convert better...the one with a great sales page
or the one with a crappy sales page?

And of course all the other factors that go into it such as what kind of site,
what kind of presell is being done, what the competition has to offer, and
    on and on.

The question can't be answered because there is no better.

Serioulsy a infoproduct sells faster than a membership offer. You need to put something extra on the tabe for people to pay you month after month. This is my own experience.

If you are new, i suggest that you go ahead with infoproduct, and then go into membership once you have established yourself in the niche that you;re targetting.

Although, I have seen membership sites with just a sales page...
bet you that there is more to that than what you can see.. Membership needs extra work from your side to keep it running i.e content, billing, support issue, misc.

    Hope my suggestion helps you

I'd agree with asian on this one. Info product converts more.

Infoproducts in general will convert at a higher percentage. The difference is, they convert ONCE. A membership site converts about 4X on average. I'm speaking of stick rate.

Of course, there are many variables and your mileage may vary.
