Calling all Video and Sound Effect Experts: Can Anybody Tell Me What This Is?

Please fast forward to the video at 2:26. I'm trying to get this sound effect but don't know what it is called and where I can get this. If you recall, some great movies use this sound effect (over and over in sequence) when they are getting invaded or when they are in danger....unfortunately I have no ideas where to get this.

Anybody have any ideas?

Success to you,

Chris Negro

I'm no expert. I used to have a Kurzweil keyboard. This sounds like a sound from an electronic keyboard. You can get this by applying an echo to the sound. On the kurzweil model I had there was a wheel (oscillator?) that you could rotate while hitting any key on the keyboard and this would change the pitch of the sound. Then apply an echo either using the keyboard or software. I hear an echo at the end of this sound.

I'm a sound designer, so maybe I can offer some insight here.

The sound you're looking for is not an instrument. It was created by merging and resampling sounds. It's a very detailed processes, but it's also very fun once you know how to do it.

Theres a video on YouTube about how they did sound effects for Lord Of The Rings. You wouldn't believe me, but they use a tin of baked beans and other random sounds. But once they are merged, resampled, chopped, resampled etc etc etc it sounds like the type of sounds you hear in transformers (or on their trailers).

I can point you to some software if you want to learn. There are 2 bits of software you should be interested in if this is something you want to try yourself:

    1) Native Instruments Reaktor
    2) Native Instruments Kontakt

Reaktor is a tool that is used to design synths from the ground up. When I say design, I mean literally design and build. You need to know a bit about synthesis and sound theory to begin.

Kontakt is a sampler. It's the tool you use to resample, merge, and shape samples.

Both come with nice price tags. I paid for the complete set ... which is called Komplete ... for £560.

I know this isn't the answer you was looking for. And I went a bit in depth. But I asked a similar question 10 years ago and here I am designing sounds because of someones helpful post.

Hope that helps bud. If you need any help or advice feel free to PM me.

Ps. Komplete was used in the move Avatar to design all the sounds

No...I don't want to learn anything. I just want the MP3 file so I can hand it off to my video experts so they can make me an intro video

      Thoughts?

      Success to you,

Yes...but I'm strictly wanting that particular sound effect. If you could lead me in the right direction I will buy you a beer

It's very simple, this is what I do when I want a sound effect.

I use a program called audacity (free) and I allow it to record the Youtube video or what ever other source the sound happens to be on.

This involves actually playing the song, or in this case the trailer in real time.

I hit the stop (record) button after I have passed the point I want to save.

I then go and and section off what segment I need (if not the whole thing) and then I export it to an mp3 that i can then load into power director or some other video editing software.

I'll buy you a beer if you do it for me and make a nice 10 second clip of that sound effect (increasing getting louder would even be better )

              You rock !

I have no idea what the file is but what you can do is you can take the MP3 of the video and then edit it to get the actual part that you need.
