Well here are some no-cost ways:

Write more content - If you want to increase site traffic, you’ve got to write content. People will not visit your site if you don’t write a decent amount of good quality content, and new visitors definitely won’t come back. So keep writing great posts!

Guest blog- Offer to write a post on someone else’s site. Even better, have the post already written up and then let the blogger know you have a post ready to guest blog on their site, if it’s okay with them. When you write your guest blog post, find a post on your own blog that’s related and link to in your guest blog post. A link for you on their blog, and more ability to increase site traffic.

Tag your images - When you have an image in your post, it should always be tagged properly. Make sure the width and height are clearly defined. But most importantly, fill out the alt and title tags with the image’s keywords.

Link to other posts - When you link to posts on other blogs, that creates a trackback, or pingback. When you link to another blogger’s post, if they have trackbacks turned on, you will receive a link back as well in the comments section of the post of which you linked.

Comment on other blogs - When you comment on other blog’s 99.9% of the time there is a box you can write in your own site’s address. Then from there, when people view your comment, they can click through to your blog or website! Comment on as many different blog’s as you can. Maybe even set aside a day of the week for commenting. The more comments you leave, the more you are noticed, and the more traffic you get.

Use images in your posts - This is something I need to work on more. Use images in your posts. When a post is full of just text, it can get boring.

Make sure you have a blog on your site with the usual SEO plugins (there is lots of advice on this in this forum). That, plus the content mentioned above, will help get your site indexed by the Search Engines.

I'd like to add Forum Commenting to the list given above. Find Forums in your niche and start replying to threads or create your own threads (just like people do here) with a link to your site in your sig.

I use social bookmarking, reddit etc. Though, i get very few traffic, but it's not bad at all

Go where there is already traffic... for example, the very site you are on has a ton of targeted traffic (in the IM niche)...

Find a site or blog or forum in your niche and contribute in a positive way... I often click on links in forum signatures and blog comments when the actual post is useful and informative... If the comment is informative, then the site owners blog is usually quite useful as well...

Use other high traffic sites to funnel some of it your way!

4. Youtube Video: Post a short video promoting your new content to Youtube. (Seeing as Youtube is the most visited video site on the web, this can create mass traffic!)
5. Tribe Syndication: Have your content syndicated thousands of times through a tribe and your content will easily get to the front page of Google--Which is a MASS traffic generator in itself. (I personally have my content syndicated to more than 700 different sites EVERY day using Tribepro. And it's only 10 bucks!)
6. Article Marketing Robot: This tool will submit your new content to more than 300 different article directories! (This will boost your traffic ridiculously..)
7. Facebook PPC: Although this can be costly, it can enable some INSANE traffic and good, quality leads! (I have a friend that is making crazy money doing it..)
8. Blog Commenting: Comment on like-minded user's blogs. Simply put! lol.
9. Tags in posts: Seemless as they may be, put relevant tags in ALL your posts. Search engines LOVE this!
10. Google Keyword Tool: This will help you name your post something that will be searched thousands of times a month! (I have reached the 3rd position on Google's front page with this! Just Google: "The Perpetual Traffic Formula" and see for yourself! Living proof! lol.)

If you use these tricks for every new piece of content you create, your blog's traffic will increase EXPONENTIALLY.

I use almost every single one of these techniques and in doing so, my blog's traffic increased 564.1% my first week..
