The art of "testing" a new niche

I still consider myself a newbie on this forum. I started posting articles at the beginning of November. Unfortunately, due to my new JOB, I haven't had the amount of time to post articles the way I planned.

So far, I have posted about 51 articles. About 35 of those articles were posted before the Thanksgiving holiday. I made about $45.00 total in November and December, and $40.00 of that amount was made in one day in December when two people bought the ebook I am promoting. One of my articles was featured on a prominent website and I got about 100 hits that day.

I am starting to think that my niche is not all that profitable and I should probably focus my attention on a different niche.

Should I continue writing articles to bring more traffic to my squidoo page, or should I abandon this niche and try something different? How much traffic is enough traffic to "test" a niche for conversion rates and profitability?

Hi Kevin, I think that is why it is called "testing" and whether you feel the work was worth the effort. At least you got a sale or two.

Some will say to "ramp up what is working" but only you can tell if your niche is good.

Some other advice is to pick at least three niches, after doing demand and keyword research on your niches. Apply the technique you use to drive traffic and ramp up the successful ones.

That's the best advice I can think of at the moment but very glad to hear you are making sales.

    Good job!

Yeah this is my first niche and I haven't expanded beyond that due to time. In about 2 weeks I should have more time for a couple months to post a lot of articles. If nothing else, I have learned how to drive traffic to my sites. I am currently reposting my ezinearticles to other article sites to try to build up my ezinearticles on google so that hopefully I can make a few more sales with my affiliate product.

Kevin, also be sure to post your articles to EZA first, before you post to others.

There are some very specific reasons for that from what I've been told because of Google.

Are you using articles specifically for driving traffic?

Sounds like you are on the way.

Yes I am using articles to drive traffic to my pre-sell pages. Also, I post my articles to Ezinearticles first. All of the articles that I am posting to other sites are older articles that have been on Ezinearticles for 30 days or longer.

Also, as far as "testing" my niche, my Clickbank product currently has a gravity between 60 and 70 most of the time, and there are usually about 2 to 5 PPC ads on Google when I search for keywords in my niche.

I'm off to bed now, but I would be interested in anything else people have to say about testing new niches.
