wordpress site / hello world

I have recently built a wordpress site and I am trying various types of SEO.
When I have been checking the site (it is about 8 weeks old) I notice that google has moved me from page 60 to page 21 then back to page 44 then down again (at present) to page 53.
I understand that sites can move about this way, but what I don,t understand is that the url that google is showing is "www.mysite.com/hello-world"
The hello-world page does not exist, in fact the day I loaded wordpress, the first thing I did was delete the hello world bit.
If Google can move me about the pages so much, why does it not recognise that there is no hello world page and there are in fact a number of other pages to look at - mainly "www.mysite.com"
I have submitted the url "mysite.com" to google a number of times, but still this problem exists.
Has anyone got any ideas why it has happened and how |I can rectify it?
