Hello Warriors and Internet Marketing Guru's,

I am brand new to Internet Marketing and have been perusing your forums the last couple of days. I have found some great information and I am really motivated with the earnings potential.

To start with, I am a VERY technical guy. By day I am a System Administrator, with a solid background in programming, web technologies, domain administration, etc... I have to admit though, I am overwhelmed by all of this IM stuff and I'm having a HECK of a time figuring it all out.

I don't want to purchase any courses, or books to get started and was hoping someone might point me to some really good free information to read or perhaps reach out and mentor me as I get started in this business. I am well versed in computers and technology and don't exactly need step by step by step, but a nice high-level overview would be nice.

Seriously, for someone as technical as me, I am really having a hard time understanding how all this works....LOL!

Thanks in advance for your time and recommendations. Looking forward to your replies!

My only advice would be, pick a business model, and master it, avoid information overload, I find CPA by far the simplest way to make a lot of money, good luck

      Hi IMNewb and Welcome

I would suggest you continue to spend some time reading, and judge who you find seems to be impressing you the most, then look in their signature to see if they offer any coaching or courses. Check out how many posts they have made and backtrack and read them all.

The WF also comprises of a number of more specialist forums which can teach you an enormous amount.

When, eventually you decide upon a particular course of action - stick to it. Rome wasn't built in a day, nor was an IM career. Most marketers who fail, do so because they flit from one idea to another, never persevering with anything long enough to allow it to succeed.

This is some of the best advice you can get.

Internet marketing is based on selling the right products to the right audience. You should read many posts at the warrior forum if you want to have many free internet marketing lessons.

Be very careful when trying to find your niche because this is basic. There is a fierce competition in all fields. Therefore, you’ll have more chances to succeed if you’ll promote in-demand products.

Another good alternative is to sell your services at websites like Elance and Odesk. You will easier make money by creating websites for others than by selling products through your own websites, especially if you are not an internet marketing expert.

Ditto. Watch for the competition and don't avoid it, yet don't fight battles you can't win. Find your niche and work the crap out of it. your niche is likely to be a technical niche. I'm not very technical, what could you teach me or do so I don't have to? (that's a hint). You have picked the best place in the world to learn by asking questions here, there are many well versed professional IMers here. I wish I had done my homework before I started, it cost me hundreds. Good luck.

Thank you for all the replies thus far! It is certainly appreciated.

I certainly intend to read as much as I can on this forum to try to get a better grasp of how to do things.

    One immediate question

My only advice would be, pick a business model, and master it
What are the business models you reference?

I have some great ideas for different target audiences and different products, etc...but don't know exactly what I need to get started.

Sounds like - from a high level - I will need a product, website, traffic to said site, some type of way to accept payments and track progress, and some type of "list"...

Again, not 100% positive on this whole process, and Google searches only yield sites to purchase a course on Internet Marketing - I'm sure this process has to be outlined somewhere for free without having to pay to learn.

    Hi IMNewbie,

    Well there is;

Affiliate Marketing: (Selling Other People's Products) Commission Based.

Product Creation: (Selling Your Own Products) There a lot of people making a killing by selling their own product right here on the Warrior Forum in the form of something Called, "WSO(Warrior Special Offer). You choose How You Get Paid

CPA Marketing; Many avenues to this one: (Data Minining companies that you send people too.) You use various methods to drive traffic to Larger Company's Offers and you get paid when people enter in their information. This could be as simple as someone entering their (Zip Code or a Phone Number) to someone (Filling Out a Full Form). You can also get paid when someone hits lands on a Buy Offer and purchases the product or service that the Merchant is selling also. (Commssion Based)

Building UP a List and Selling Solo Ads & Website Url recommendatons: (You set your own price and how you are paid)

Providing Your Own Online Services: (Seo service, Website Design, Script Programming, Installations, Article Marketing, Facebook Marketing, Video Marketing, Copywriting, the list goes on a bit, but you get the idea) You set your prices and how you want to be paid.

Offline Marketing "Hot one right now.": (You contact Local & Not so Local Businesses and sell them various Online services, that will get them more leads and more sales to their Business.(You set how much they are going to pay you for your service.) The services that you provide are some of the same services listed above (Online Services).

Well, I'm sure there are some I've left out, because each one of those Main Categories has a lot of sub-categories as well.

Hopes this helps, and Good Luck My Friend.

I can't seem to reply to private messages yet.

Dead serious about learning this and getting this off the ground. I figure I have the technical pieces down, I just need to find a business model and work on building a base.

There are a lot of marketing methods out there (Harold Lindsey provided some good examples). My best advice is to just choose one, read as MUCH as you can on it, until your head feels like it's going to explode, then take a break and read some more. Start small, but stick with your plan and keep working on it.

The most common thing with IM newbies is trying something, having it not work right away, then boom - on to the next idea. Just master one area of the IM world and focus on that. It will make things much less complicated.

Despite what some people believe, selling WSOs is not really a "business model". WSO (the warriors special offers subforum) is a marketplace. And there are tons more...

With your technical background you may consider writing scripts/software and selling it.
(Yes, that would be under the product creation, too.) Not necessarily to this MMO (=make money online) crowd from the WF
