Google's Attention - Best Methods?

Building a new site always has it's pit falls, and struggles, but to avoid some of them I am hoping that together we will create a full list of options.

My understanding:

Build site, Add list
submit to search engines
create article marketing campaign and submit
promote in forums, and via social bookmarking
link exchanges, joint ventures ect to follow up closely

what am i missing?

this is quite general, I often use twitter as one of my marketing tools.

Besides submitting to search engine, you can consider submitting your website to web directories, not forgetting submitting your feed to feed directories.

I often found submitting my feed to feed directories is a great way to help in search engine ranking and attracting more traffic

Just my 2 cents here, hope this helps!

For feed submitting software, I use Allscope RSS submit pro, it is a freeware

It submit your site to more than 32 feed directories, which make my job easier, I often get indexed in google in less than 24 hours after doing all this

How about before you build your site - there's a research phase.

You should research your market and definitely do some keyword research to build SEO in your website from the ground up.

Establish your main keyword focus for your home page and identify longer tailed words for sub pages,

    Just my thoughts

I put in another vote for rss, worked wonders for me. Plus there are other uses beyond submitting to rss directories.

And Neil brings up a important point. Could have link backs, but not much help if the site is not SEO'ed properly.

Rss and web directories still work decently to gain some page rank. Additionally, what about craigslist traffic and other classified ads? You will be surprised just how much traffic you get for free! (even if it isn't the best).

No need to submit to SE's if you are going to use social bookmarking.
Also researching keyword and doing SEO is my best method.

Only once the site is SEO'd with the proper keywords. Submit rss if you have it. Submit to directories, bookmark on social networks. Start squidoo, hubpages, blogger blog(s), forum signatures, ect, ect.
