Quick question to you list builders.

Okay, I know some of you have been able to build massive lists in a short amount of time.

But for a complete newb, is 100 subscribers in 30 days Bad, Average, Good, excellent (for a noob) using 100% free methods of marketing?

Why think of it in terms "Bad, Average, Good", at all?

I'm assuming you have generated 100 subscribers in 30 days which is why you are asking.

So ... what has happened is that you have generated 100 subscribers in 30 days.

From me to you: Congratulations! You're DOING it! ( I would tell you that if you had 10 subscribers or 1,000 ).

Instead of spending any time on trying to evaluate in terms such as bad, average, or good, take a look at what you did to generate those leads.

    Can you keep doing it?
    Can you do it bigger?
    Can you do it faster?

    Are your subscribers buying?

If they are buying, can you take some of those funds and expand your lead generation channels?

In my world, those are really the only questions that matter.

I started my list building with my first subscriber.
Everyone started their list building with their first subscriber.

Now we focus on things like....

"Ok... if I can do that once ... let's come up with a way to do it over and over by a factor of 10, 100, or even 1,000.

The important thing is: You have begun generating a list and THAT is the objective, right?

    Congratulations!

Now start ramping up your activities and build a bigger list faster.

Don't waste any time trying to make comparisons.

There are people that build their lists faster than me.
There are people that build their lists slower than me.

The part that matters to me is that:

    1) I keep building my lists.
    2) Those lists keep generating profits.

100 in 30 days is great!

Expand your methods and you will be expanding your lists

Also I have made 5 figures off small lists before, it is all about communication and trust with your subscriber.

Start to know more about them instead of just an email address to contact.

I'm wondering how do you find out more about them? Do you put surveys in your autoresponder and gather info that way?

I'm still learning and appreciate your input.

Encourage them to ask questions and answer them honestly.

Build a relationship with them, you will find that it becomes far more profitable that way. People buy from people that they trust.

The amount doesnt really matter. You can have 10k leads thats that are untargeted and dont buy. And you can have 600 hundred subscribers that are responsive and buy whatever you recommend to them

    Quality not quantity.

Good work, you are on your way!

Well, I was asking because I was thinking of possibly an inexpensive WSO for other nubes struggling to build a list.

    DB,

Generally I will run surveys, polls, web seminars, contests, etc. to gain as much information about my list as possible.

This way I learn the demographics and behaviors of them.

Now I can allocate my list into different selling strategies based upon what type of buyer is on my list.

Some buyers interact well with SalesLetters and pitches

Some interact better talking with you in a web seminar interface

    etc
    etc

I get about 1,000 a month but only about 30% of them open emails and only about 8% ever buy.

If your product produces a big enough profit per sale, based on your capture rate and retention rate and conversion rate, you should use pay per click to generate more leads as fast as you can. (as long as it is profitable).

So - If it takes me 100 clicks at a dollar ($100) to get 20 leads that's $5 a lead.

Then, if only 8% convert, that's about 2 sales.

I have to earning MORE than $100 on those two sales or PPC is a losing propostition.

If PPC is not going to work then try SEO over time. I have found that just adding 5 backlinks per day will get you ranked on page one within 4 to 6 months and you'll tend to stay there.

or you could lower your CPC using adwords optimization and raising your Q score to 10 (great). This could lower your cost per lead acquisition to maybe $3.50 each.

It's all about the numbers and whether you are making a profit based on your lead generation cost.
