Web hosting and domain name registering question

Greetings All,
Great forum here with lots of knowledgeable people. Anyway,can or should one pick one site for hosting and the domain registering ?
I was thinking about the ease of all your information being at one site and the cost factor of just paying one vendor per month for both.
I've checked various hosting sites. Don't know how to pick the best one. Any advice and suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm about ready to start my first campaign.

    I have been using HostGator for quite some time now and I have to say that I am extremely impressed. I was referred there by Chris Farrell and they have not let me down yet. They have a good plan for unlimited domains for $9.95 a month and their online support is 2nd to none. 24 hour live internet chat that can be there to help with the click of a button.

    never register your domain with your web host. it gives them to much control. you can read lots of posts as to why, but just take my advice and dont do it.

    as for who to use... you will get 50 different answers.

    i would say 2 of the most popular combinations many warriors use is namecheap for domains and hostgator for hosting.

    of course you can find good and bad about most companies with a lot of customers, but going with those 2 are pretty safe bets.

    btw... i use hostgator and name.com

    Most folks seem to have an axe to grind with GoDaddy. I hosted with them a few years ago and they've always been great...but that doesn't seem to be the consensus...

    I would buy the domain name under GoDaddy.com and get hosting from LunarPages.com. I personally use both and love them!

    I use justhost.com for hosting and namecheap.com and godaddy.com for name registration. I have a love-hate relationship with the hosting. No problems really with the others.

    This is just a preference of mine...

    I prefer having certain domains at certain registrars. If it was a big project, I
    would probably register the name with Moniker or something along the lines of
    that. If it was just a small project, I would buy it at GoDaddy or Name.

    Never register your domain at the same place you get web hosting. If the web host should fail, which they all eventually do from time to time, your website will be dead in the water for the entire duration. If your domain is registered at a different place, when your web host goes down you can quickly point your domain to another host.

    GoDaddy.com for domains.

    As for hosting, take your pick. I use a couple of free ones and one paid for my main site. bytehost.com

    If Your web host registered your domain in their name, The domain is legally theirs. That is really bad.

    There's lots of horror stories about registering a domain with the hosting company, deciding that the hosting company was really crappy and not being able to transfer the domain away from them. They actually control the domain when you register through the hosting, so it's a very bad idea. I register with namecheap and godaddy and host through hostgator and hostmonster.
