What do you guys think about .info domains? How about .ws?

I have some of both - I am keeping my .ws because it is a single word ( no matter what anyone says. ) But still, for the long term, what do you think?

I really do not think the extension matters that is my opinion I have some .info domains that rank very well same things apply to all of them. Good seo, and good backlinks = high rankings in the serps.

The only .info I own is for my affiliate redirects. It is something to the affect of clickhereformore.info

and I will put a subdomain on it for a redirect to the affiliate site:

So for instance if the affiliate program was called: Make Money Now my subdomain that redirects would be http ://makemoneynow. clickhereformore. info

It looks way better than a messy affiliate link and it is easy for me to track how many clicks I get. No need to wait for clickbank analytics to update. Plus it is a little more compelling to click on as well

Thanks, Cru, for the idea. I like it. I'll do it next time.

As for ranking, I didn't see a big difference in .com, .net, or .info. Haven't tried the other ones.

As for trust, well, I personally would trust a .com more. Also, if you plan on selling the domain - .coms sell better.

Come to think of it, maybe someone who's not in the IM niche may think that .info means information - and that it's even better than a .com. They have no idea that it's 1/10th of the price of a .com.

When you are talking niche marketing it is far more important to have your main keyword in the domain name than it is to have a .com

I see lots of .net, .info, .co, etc. that rank very high in some niches.

Unless you are relying on type ins for your domain, then the extension isn't really important, IMO.

Thanks for the comments. I think that this discussion will be different in ten or twenty years as it gets almost impossible to get .coms. (At least without a broker) I noticed that Howie Scwartz advertised how he got many of his sites on the first page, and the domains were all .info. And that cat knows how to do SEO, backlinking etc. and all the domains had the keyword in them. Debbie, the temptation with the .info is that they are so cheap for one year and then go up to the regular price for the second year. BTW - I downloaded your killer words and phrases list - awesome stuff1

Thanks, bloomingrose, much appreciated. If I do believe in anything, it's that good marketing should be win-win. If you give me your e-mail address, I should give you something valuable in return.

There are 100+ threads here about .info domains, such as this recent one (recommended).

They're all more or less the same: I don't think you'll need to read many of them, to get the point.

For myself, I wouldn't touch a .ws domain-name, for several reasons, of which these are the two main ones ...

        (i) I have no particular interest in ranking highly on Google searches in Western Samoa (for which it's the national domain extension);

(ii) I'd hate anyone to imagine that I might have any association with an MLM company called Global Domains International, who sell them (and a range of other internet services) at ludicrous prices which no retail customer would ever pay.

Info TLDs have acquired a bad reputation because many unscrupulous entities have used it to put up spammy websites.

Always go for .com domains, as they are remembered easily. These are the ones that people remember by default.

I think the reputation of TLDs goes .com, .org,.net,.biz,.info

Stuff like .ws tends to be junk, same goes for .co
