Anyone Have A Good Cold Calling Script?

Hey guys, I'm looking to jump into the Offline Arena, and I need some cash ASAP. Does anyone know of a good cold calling technique that they have had continued success with.

If someone could help me out with this I would really appreciate it.

Thx

    Chris,

Go with this dude, and it changed my thinking about my work back when I once had a call center job. I listened to his CDs every day on my way to work. Very humble approach rather than US vs THEM approach.

    Do a SHORT 2-step:

    1) Hi, I found out about you at ________ / we met at ______

(Establish a connection immediately - -skip the Hello Mr. or Mrs. William Jones ..crap....when no one goes by their full name and no one wants to share their health / weather or other concerns with you, and don't care about you concerns, either. People are busy. Cut to the chase.)

    2) Who would I speak that handles __________ (your internet marketing, for example?)

    Then SHUT UP.

    Tips:

    a) Thank the person for their time always, regardless of the reply. Hang up after the call, and move on to the next.

    b) Confirm email & mailing address and correct spelling of contact name and title to follow up with more info, when possible.

    c) Seek referrals when possible, even if you do not get a sale or anything.

    Great suggestions above!

One that I might have to add into the mix would be the Dani Johnson Prospecting & Closing Scriptbook.

Although it is designed for network marketers/MLM, it could easily be adapted to whatever products or services you may be selling.

Again, not exactly sure what your particular product or service may be, but it's certainly worth a look!

Asking for a cold calling script in this way is rather like asking for a railway timetable without saying where you want to go.

Any cold call script is best delivered face to face and needs to establish a benefit for the prospect in speaking to you as soon as possble.

If you are cold calling on the telephone you need to be sure that you have permission to speak before even thinking about starting a pitch but, again, you must show the benefit for the prospect in speaking to you as soon as possible.

In all truth, it really does not matter what you say to people as an introduction because they won't really be listening to you - they will still be embroiled in whatever it was they were doing before you stopped them.

You need to build a short, sharp introduction to your service that requires a 'yes' or 'no' answer. For example, my approach (telephone or face to face) is very simple - "Hi. I'm Arthur. Will you let me show you how to save a lot of the money you are currently spending?"

All I have done is give my name and ask for permission to speak to him. If he says 'Yes' I can go straight into my short presentation if he says 'No' I simply say 'OK. Thank you. May I call on you again?' and mostly get a 'Yes' response which allows me to ask the most convenient time of the day for him (but I do not try to make an appointment).

Far too many cold callers waste a whole lot of time and burn a lot of prospects because they feel they have to say a lot and never really give themselves the opportunity to engage the prospect.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

I'm looking to offer online services to local business owners around my area. I don't know how to approach them about it though, and what services I actually offer them. Right now I have a telephone sales job but we never do cold calling, they call us, so I don't really have a problem getting hanged up on repeatedly.

But yeah, this is the kind of script I'm looking for.

Excellent thread! Just got into cold calling today with literally no direction besides pick up the phone & see where it goes.

Anyone confirm this is how it should generally go?:

Lead > Phonecall > obtain name/address of prospect > Call back at a convenient time for them > Presentation > Close

I'm doing all my stuff over the phone, so phone meetings is as far as i'm going. Would setting a time in stone be best? Or rather just ask "What would be a convenient time to callback?"

    Advice appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Zul

Well here is my 2 cents from being an Army recruiter now for over 9 years. Why would you do a cold call nowadays anyway with the invention o MySpace/face book everyone and every business nowadays has a page up. Scan the page look at their interests and hobbies this way you will have something to relate to them with. While making phone calls is a hassle. Making a call when you feel comfortable with the person makes the conversation go 100 times better.

Here are just some words of wisdom: Instead of focusing on making the sale, first determine if there's a good fit that is worth pursuing between you, your prospect, and what you are selling.

I have MANY years experience successfully cold calling (too many). Below is what I use that works for me. I ALWAYS use a "script outline!" Adapt & use:

    The Gatekeeper
    1. Good morning/afternoon _______. I'm a small business owner and am looking for just one plumber in the ____area to refer about 1 to 3 new customers a week to. Would the owner be the best person to speak with about this? *** In? Name? Email? Fax?
    2. Good morning/afternoon _______. I'm a small business owner and was doing some research online this morning and came across an internet listing for your company. The thing is, I noticed a problem that prevents most people searching for a plumber in ______ from ever seeing your listing!

It's something so simple that I thought I'd just give the owner a call and point it out. Who would that be? *** I can hold on while you transfer me. ****

If GK continues to ask questions:

I appreciate that you're just doing your job - and doing it very well I might add. I also have a great assistant who does the same for me. I'm not a salesman -- I'm also a business owner - and have some business I can refer to you folks. Plus, I'm sure what I noticed can help the owner from losing even more business.

So - if at all possible - I'd feel more comfortable speaking directly with the owner about what's actually a very important point! I'll hold on...

    ********************

Maybe you can help me out for a minute. I tried to get a hold of ____, but I got his voicemail. Would you happen to know if he's at lunch, in a meeting or vacation by any chance?
    ***********************
    VOICE MAIL

I'm a small business owner and was doing some research online this morning when I came across a Google internet listing for your company and noticed a real problem that prevents most people who are searching for a plumber in ______ from ever seeing your contact information! It's something simple, and thought you'd want to know how to fix it. I'm ____ at ______. If I'm out, leave a message and I'll get back to you within 12 hours.

Those are good "door openers" above.

Once you get the owner on the phone, don't spend too much time talking about yourself, and don't try to close the deal over the phone on the first call. Unless you're doing long-distance consulting, the goal of the call is to get an appointment.

Keeping that in mind, ask questions about their business, trying to find out more about their needs and frustrations. Most people will find this very disarming, since it's backwards from a typical "sales call." Combined with the positioning that you're another small business owner, you're really just having a conversation. Listen, and then during your face-to-face meeting, use the information you've gathered on the phone to dig even deeper.

Duuude! Cold calling? Did you lose a bet? Are you paying penance for something? Why would you cold call when you are in the internet marketing world?

Back in the day, about 10yrs ago+, it was worth it, but today people are really turned off by cold callers. If it's B2B, there are still some sales to be made, but I'd rather light my hair on fire or ride a bicycle without a seat on it before cold calling.

If you must, don't say, "How are you doing today?" as an opener. When someone I don't know calls me on the phone and asks how I'm doing, I immediately think of ways to get off the call. All that being said, best of luck to you (unless of course you call my house).

nice video..shame it was a complete scam though. Funny how people like seeing a Dr. ripped off for what about $200,000+? Micheal douglas said he has people in Wall Street thanking him for playing Gekko as that's what made them get into that industry. He told them Gekko was the villan and it was supposed to be against greed. People can be funny.

I once worked at firm where they sold fine wines to US DR's would rip them off for $50,000+ at time. I found out it was a scam after three days and walked away...They wouldn't even give me my return air ticket. I was the only one to do that. Others justified it: "they have too much money, I'l lquit when I pay off my mortgage, if they are stupid enough to fall for it it's their fault..." Unbelievable.

W.S.2. comes out soon bye the way.
"I once said greed was good..not it seems it's legal"
    LOL he got that right!
