One big site Vs 6 smaller sites, A newbies dilema

Hi All,
After tasting reasonable success with my first website, I have decided to launch 6 more (or maybe 1) in the coming 1 year. I have researched keywords and have come up with 6 different niches. My plan is to have 100 pages of quality content for each of the 6 niches (600 articles in total)

My Revenue model is going to be Adsense, eBooks and Affiliate income.

Now my question is, whether it is better from traffic perspective, to have 6 different websites of hundred page each dedicated on the particular niche, or am I better off having ONE 600 page website with all the niches combined together and separated by individual menu items.

One problem for a combined website is that my niches are going to be diverse (may range from dog training to education, examples only) and so may not have a great user experience. Also the niche value may be diluted.

On the other hand, once I have uploaded some 250 pages in the same webiste and promoted them a bit, my domain will have a greater credibility from Google and with subsequent posts, it will be easier to rank for the future articles. Whereas, if I have 6 websites, for each one I have to start over again.

I look fwd to you guys for your opinion.

Regards
Ashish

    Hey Ashish,

I would do the 6 smaller sites and break down your time evenly on each one

Hi Ashish, I don't think 100 pages is particularly small

With that in mind, I recommend getting aged domains for all your sites. It makes life a lot easier and earning a lot quicker!

Congrats on seeing success with your very first site

Both models are good at first, but for long term success you should build larger sites.

To achieve short term success, smaller sites might be ideal, but they tend to be short lived.

So you might want to start a few small sites to get going, but at the same time start one or more large sites for long term success.

why not do both? you have one large site and want to build six more. build 4 small sites and two more large and see how they go.

Thank you all, for your responses.

My approach is that I want to work on one niche at a time. Create pages, market articles, produce backlinks and when traffic starts pouring, move over to the next one.

With that approach, if I am having individual sites, once I am done, there will be very little activity on the site in terms of new articles, new backlinks, etc.

Whereas, if I am having one Big site where I keep on adding new niches and new articles, there is always some activity in terms of fresh content new marketting initiatives and backlinks. And I thing Google loves that kind of stuff. Plus the site will age all along.

    What do you think?

How related are the 6 niches? If they are very closely related then you might as well make just one or two websites. If they are not really that closely related then separate smaller websites might be better.

The most important thing, in my opinion, is to analyze the visitors' needs and wants. Will the people visiting the website want all six topics/niches? If the answer is yes, then one big website is good.

For example, if your topic is dogs your visitors will probably be interested in all types of products for dogs - dog food, collars, shampoo, etc. On the other hand, what if your 6 topics are about 6 different pets? I'm pretty sure a parakeet lover will not be interested in ferret food. It's basically the same niche (pet care) but your visitors will have different needs per affiliate product.

As I see it, the problem with having just one big website is that if for any reason you have problems then your income will take a huge hit. What if the big G decides to slap your site down to the 7th page?

Having said that, maybe a hybrid? One big site for long-term and 3 smaller ones might be good.

I think if your going to combine all the niches into one website they need to be very closely related, otherwise it just makes more sense to have 6 smaller sites. Ideally you should register all domains at the start, so that they are all aged. I think completing one niche, then moving to the next one is a good idea. Once you've finished a niche I am sure months later you will be able to find smaller changes you can make, so that google knows you are updating your content. You don't need to worry about that at the moment. Good luck with your sites
