tahoecale thanks for this info. One thing confuses me is that everyone online creating and selling products are referred to as internet marketers. I think, like production - marketing too is a different department. An apt word for those creating and selling products online I think should be i-entrepreneurs. and who do just marketing for others can be termed as i-marketers.

I have discovered that internet marketing is really misunderstood and alot of times handled wrong. You still have to be yourself and build good relationships with people or you never hear from them again. You still have to learn good marketing skills to use online, just like offline. Your audience online is just so much bigger.

Xavierfok - Thanks. totally agree, for big businessess it's a conjuction process. Online advertising is just one channel. Your focus was on channels like website/email/socialmedia. It's really boils down to these channels only. and your effectiveness relies heavily on how you use these online ways.

sbucciarel - Thanks for quoting my thoughts on it. I agree product and market are complimentary and are like car&petrol and similar items. It's just for the sake of departmentalizing that businesses has seperate functional units to answer one quesiton that is creating and selling products.

I would even consider getting offline consultants via the web Internet marketing. It is getting more important in recent years and a lot of business have extended into the online world.

I think Internet Marketing is simply using the digital environment we call the Internet as a vehicle for the delivery of information and entertainment that can be converted into money through advertising. The paper publication industry has successfully engaged in this type of commerce for decades, and the television industry took information (and entertainment) surrounded by advertising to a new level.

Of course, participation as a publisher in the paper and television industry requires a whacking amount of money.

I think most people (at least here at WarriorForum ) equate internet marketing to affiliate marketing. However, I think that terminology is a very general thing.....as the name says, I guess internet marketing just means marketing (anything, be it commercial or not) through the power of the Internet!!

Sheila : Thanks for that valuable insight. It's universal practice that we tend to give so many meanings to one particular thing and so this is with internet marketing. The only thing which confused me was the term imarketers instead of being ientrepreneurs or ibusinessman.

David Maschke : Wow, keeping mouth shut really doesn't get you where you like to be - and in internet marketing it's indeed valuable to keep your mouth publicity open as much as possible both on/off - line.

Zpivat : Thanks. I agree that really affiliate marketing is now being widely associated with internet marketing. I think (deriving from your evaluation) lot of internet users earlier used to promote affiliate products and may be that's the reason why they associated themselves with internet marketing. Must say a great point to this thread.

David - Thanks for the revamped thought that internet marketing is 'self explanatory'. Well, there are lot of things that are self explanatory but adding your own meaning to things that are self explanatory but very important to you (case in point is IM) will provide you a clear sense of understanding and direction about it. Like the way you defined it as 'internet means being online and not offline and marketing means to not keep your mouth shut. And, this your own definition will drive you always to have success by being constantly and regularly online with your products and publicizing them at every opportunity.
