Ok here's the deal:

You have sold a product for $47 for a month with ok sales but you want to get things going by discounting the price to say $19 for a firesale.

The only problem I see here is upsetting your present customers by offering the lower price? Are there any other problems, FTC?

Can you do this at all?

Cheers.

How is this any different from an iPhone debuting at $499 and then two months later it sells for $299?

In terms of the FTC they don't like hidden charges or as of 2010 these things we call 'rebills'.

You are allowed to set your price as you see fit. I would be more concerned about customers who bought at $47 being mad that you are now selling for $19.

It's not a fun game to play, but its one that any product creator goes through. In terms of the FTC I feel that you have nothing to worry about in dropping the price.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

      I do agree with BloggingPro.

Instead of dropping the price for a firesale, how about adding more value to the product and making it worth more than $200 bucks?
      • The price remains the same.
      • The value is upped.
      • Your existing customers won't be mad.
      • You'll get sales from both new and existing customers.
      • And of course, you make much more money (if you manage to get enough sales).
How you make it work depends on how you execute it.

If you're providing regular updates you will have no problem with people who already bought it.
