How much does a list make?

Hey all,

I'm just doing some planning for 2012. Is there a standard revenue number per month per sign up?

I've often heard that you can expect $1 per month per sign up. Does that number still hold up?

I know it depends on many factors including follow-up, market etc. But what is a general revenue number you could expect per sign up?

Thanks

It depends on how you use the list,

If you have a buyers list you built from a product launch, then yeah you can expect $1 per subscriber on average.

It depends on a lot more factors, i.e what products/services you are promoting to them..

I have a list of 1500 buyers which I had built from different avenues and I can, on average generate around $1200 some times more or sometime less.

There's more to it. Generally, I'd ask my subscribers of what their needs are, etc, so I'd survey them.

Helps me target them, and find specific products they'd actually buy.

Building and mainting a relationship is the key and also monetizing correctly.

    Hope this helps

    • I'd say it's impossible to estimate this, and any figure you get will be exactly that...and estimate.

Every list has different people, and has been built up from different avenues. There is no possible way in my opinion to gauge what each person is worth.

It truly depends on so many factors, I personally feel one of the main factors is how much your list actually trusts you. The only way to gain that trust is through giving away quality content and tips.

Also, as bilaal mentioned, use survey monkey and ask your list what they would like, you'd be surprised as to the amount of people who reply with some quite staggering answers.

While there are metrics that different companies use I have found them to be pretty useless. There are so many factors when it comes to list building.

I've often heard that you can expect $1 per month per sign up. Does that number still hold up?
Again, it really depends on your price points, how targeted your list is, how engaged you are with your list, expenses etc. I would focus more on building a relationship with your list and balancing your content with offers, then test different things to boost your profitability.

I know it depends on many factors including follow-up, market etc. But what is a general revenue number you could expect per sign up?
I have found that there really is not a general revenue number. I've built lists in different markets and they vary by a WIDE margin. Some people cite 25 cents per e-mail address per year. Uhm, ok. Others cite $5 or $12 even $22 per e-mail address they have in their customer list. It's all over the place.

So in essence, you already answered your own question by starting out with "I know it depends on many factors.......".

It depends on the source of the subscribers and your relationship with them.

$1 would be great per subscriber.

As everyone else says it really depends. But when you build a list treat your list like you would treat your mother. Care for them and they will reward you a lot better than spamming them every day with affiliate links. my .02

it all depends on if you make a good relationship with your list and if they are targeted in your niche.

with the right policy, it makes $1 per member. Just don't make the mistake to start with spam messages. Send some free quality stuff in the beginning and your list members will be your friends

It's not the "list" that makes money. It's what YOU put INTO the list. (i.e., quality info, building relationships, customer support, and awesome deals/promotions etc.)

It doesn't really matter how much everyone else makes per subscriber. Test it out for yourself over a decent sample size and figure out how much each subscriber is making you. Then you can find some paid traffic sources and see if it is profitable to go that route.
