The site is largely irrelevant when it comes to ranking.

It's all about links..... Get enough decent links and the rest is irrelevant.

I've had decent luck ranking some sites with link wheels from web 2.0 properties and backlinks from high PR sites. I'd also make sure the SEO'd content is very readable by humans and not keyword stuffed.

Too many debates are going on about the ranking procedure. Some say it has 200 factors. Others say the algorithm has thousands of variables. So no clear guideline. If one says he has, then don't believe. Yes, creating good high PR and relevant backlinks may help to boost rank. But from personal experience I can say that it doesn't always help. But I agree that it has the largest share in deciding ranking.

I got my site to rank on the first page of Google by building high quality backlinks and post quality content to my site related to my keywords. I write a lot of articles and press releases also to get quality backlinks and traffic to my site.

      Then you're doing it wrong.

In my experience of doing this for over 15 years - It ALWAYS helps.

But then again, if you think that spamming web2.0 profiles and such is "getting high PR links" then that would probably explain your perspective.

Many people think that getting a spam link on some random blog just because its homepage has some PR qualifies as "high quality link building" and then wonder why they don't see results for their efforts, and end up saying "there must be more to it than links", instead of "hey - crap spammy links don't seem to work".

This stuff is not rocket science and people make it much harder for themselves than it needs to be.

It's like someone saying they've decided to be a mechanic but they don't want to buy good tools or spend any real time training, so they've read some ebooks on mechanics and are now offering their services to local car owners. When they get a small job to do - it takes 5 times longer than it should because they don't have the tools, and they can't charge enough to make it worth it. So they say "being a mechanic doesn't pay", or "what's the best way to fix cars with no tools and spending no money on parts?".

It depends a lot for what kind of keywords you want to rank. If you try to rank for "weight loss" you will need lots of high quality backlinks from different sources and from relevant sites in your niche.

If you want to rank for a low competition keyword like "losing some weight on your hips" it will be much easier and less time consuming to get a top ranking - mayben some blog comment links, a few article submissions, some forum profile links, a few .edu backlinks... will be enough.

Good on-page optimization is also important - but it probably accounts only for ~10% , while creating quality backlinks accounts for maybe ~90%

For more competitive keywords you need quality backlinks:

Guest posts on high quality sites
Quality backlinks from good .edu sites (with only a few outbound links)
Put up a great free resource, a high quality article... make friends and ask for backlinks from quality sites
        ...

          You'll see those 2 mentioned a lot.

1 - Valid, but don't spam random blogs. Build relationships with blog owners for best results.

2 - IM Myth that .edu links are any better than other domain extensions. The links have no more value than the you get in 1).

There are many other ways. You can start directory submission, social bookmarking, blog commenting, forum posting, link exchange & work on social networking sites like: facebook, twitter, linkedin & Googleplus.

In my experience fresh web content has done wonders for me. Yes backlinks are definitely very relevant but getting quality backlinks is not easy. Putting fresh content on your website is very important in SEO. Have a blog as part of the website and make you write fresh and unique content that is of course related to the website info. You will be amazed at how your rankings improve. As you write then you look for quality backlinks as well, optimize those links to certain keywords and you are in business.

    Hi,

In general, one doesn't refer to rankings on a website level but rather on a page/url level. However certain domains rank their content with less SEO effort based on trust/ authority domain age etc.

Besides that, ranking content is really not a complicated process, still there seems to be so much confusion regarding the subject.

Without knowing what you really want to achieve and how you want to get it done, here's a scenario you could work to really get things done:

Suppose that all you want to do is to build a niche website that makes money on some form of advertising and that you want to make sure.

If you want to get things done, my recommendation is to outsource and remove yourself from the decision making process as much as possible:

With the warrior forum the outsourcing process is easy:

    Enough Said:

1.Buy a cheap website here at WF, that way you'll get someone to do keyword research for you, find an Exact Match Domain and install the website(Wordpress recommended) You'll probably get a few low to medium quality articles with this purchase.

    2. Take your main keyword from the Exact Match Domain and go out and find a High Ranking article on the keyword in question.

    3. Have it rewritten by a content provider with good reputation here on the forum, it's pretty easy to find one and it's cheaper to have something rewritten(make sure it's optimized for the keyword). By having a top ranking article rewritten, you are almost 100% certain that you have all the necessasry ingredients in the article

    4. Publish this HQ article on the front page of your website(static front page) and link out to the other articles from the main one.

    5. Get High Quality Links - This is very often already included in many website packages here on the forum so make sure you get them pointing to the HQ article primarily. There are many good providers of links here at WF.

This is a simple process and it works, don't make it more complicated than it is because it's not necessary. Have a good foundation with High Quality content, research already done for you and you'll rarely fail to get a top 10 ranking.

    /Daniel

    Hi All!

I had same problem like Kyle have. I spent so much time on getting advices. My suggestion is to hire a good SEO company for your site or ranking up your website. The company should have great track record and know how to optimize your website. You should also run a SEO compaign for your website. I know these companies and I am working with one of them. So my suggestion is to chosse right people for your website.

    Have a good day.

    Cheers
    Ally

An option worth considering is to look for and find an expired domain with existing good pagerank/traffic, that contains a keyword targetted to your niche. Also check out some of the domain auctions sites (Godaddy has one) and you could pick up gems, if you take the necessary time to research properly.

Don't always rely on building links. Watch your Google Analytics and see if there are progress in traffic to your site. Learn how to use social media and interact with people.
