What's more important, quality of information or delivery?

Hey everyone.

I'm having a bit of trouble.

I'm trying to create a course (Manuals + Videos). I recorded a video last night and my voice is rubbish!

I am no good at multi-tasking and because Im trying to talk AND move my mouse around the screen my voice is very monotone.

I fall asleep listening to myself.

So my question is, What's more important to you, the quality of information or the way it is delivered?

Also, does anybody have any tips on how I can improve my Voice Over Skills?

Thanks!

    I would say both...
In order for you to improve your "Voice over skills" ... you need to improve your public speaking skills... like giving a speech infront a group of people (this will increase your confidence with your recordings). Then you need some equipment for quality voice recording. Ideally buying a good microphone is a good investment, but you could probably get away with recording your voice using an ipod or something.

If you really struggle with multi tasking, I recommend breaking up your tasks... for example record the video seperately, then add voice to the video seperately (there are software out there that can make your life easy).

Anyways, good luck and have fun

To me, the quality of information is more important BUT
the way it's delivered is also important.

That said, you need to deliver it in the best way you
can - especially if you want repeat sales.

(You can't bore someone into doing business with you).

If you're using some of the most recent versions of
Camtasia Studio to create your screencasts, it is
possible to record your screen and audio separately.

In fact, I know a number of the pros recommend that
you record the screen first and then record your audio
afterwards to create a better result.

You can create a better audio if you stand and use
gestures that will translate into a more interesting
    and variable voice tone.

Alternatively, you can record your screen and audio at
the same time - but just do shorter recordings and then
stitch them together into a longer video. This decreases
the chances that you'll have a 'sag' in your performance
    further into the recording.

Also, when you're doing the audio recording, imagine
that your target prospect is sitting in front of you and
that you're teaching them one-on-one. Then talk in a
    conversational and friendly tone.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

    Ben,

I also had this problem when I first started recording videos -- my voice is naturally quite deep and unless I make an effort to put in some expression it can sound very flat and boring.

It just comes with practice. After you record a few times you'll find you get more comfortable doing so and the less you are worrying about things the more relaxed you can be and the more expression you can put into your voice. Think of it as though your are talking to a friend sitting right next to you.

Having said that you don't want to go too far over the top. Your voice is probably not as boring as you think it is. Besides, having a deep voice can help build trust and authority so just learn to get a little more comfortable with the recording and the rest should follow.

One thing I found that helped... I was always stressing over making mistakes because I knew I would then have to start again and waste a whole lot of time. The truth is you don't need to do this. If you ever make a mistake whilst recording simply stop talking for about 5 seconds, compose yourself, and then start the bit you messed up again. You can do this as many times as you want throughout the video. Once you've finished recording you can then go back and edit those mistakes right out of the video... and since we have left a 5 second break in between it is very easy to spot where you need to do the editing because the audio wave line will be flat in those parts.

Knowing that making a mistake is not a big deal certainly helps to take some of the pressure off and make the recording sound more natural and relaxed. Other than that, practice, practice, practice.

      WillR gave some good advice.

Here's an add-on practice tip. Exaggerate your vocal expression a bit, like you might in a stage play. It will sound over the top as you are recording, but much less so on the playback. A few practice runs, and pretty soon you'll know how "wrong" to do it so it comes out right.

Both. I used to sell a product where the guy's information was good, but you could hardly hear him due to the static on the CD. His voice was low underneath the static, so you had to really strain to hear what he was saying.

I would say both are important, and you should invest in a good recording device if you want your voice to sound clear and coherent.

All great advice for you to take to heart.

I would add this though, I have do a lot of work on stage, and one way to grab the people is to raise and lower your voice. People will strain to hear a whisper, and jump with excitment when you punch out a line.

    Hope this helps.

Also here is a link to a guru in the video marketing field. If you are doing a course then it would pay you in the long run to get some training on the best ways to do it.

Quality without doubt is important. Improving user experience by providing with a good presentation is also important. Before seeing the quality of information user will see the presentation style. So both are important.

I am sorry to say this, but the delivery is very important.

there is only one first impression, and that will either engage or repel your viewer.. Try and warm up your voice before, and drink plenty of water on the day you want to record.

    try this:

With today's viewers, I would almost say that the delivery is a bit more important. If you don't catch the viewers attention, it doesn't matter what you say in the end...they're already gone. But I do agree, that quality is very important.

To get better, just keep practicing reading out loud, the more you read, the better you'll become. And adding some extra enthusiasm to the read always helps.

If you're speaking absolutes, then delivery is more essential.

But, both should be practiced and mastered.

Both of them are necessary, and that's the bottom line. If one of them is missing the seller can't be trusted without a sincere apology , refund, and explanation.
