Squeeze Page on Landing Page a Turn Off?

My question is SPECIFICALLY in regards to article syndication. When you are out looking for website owners and newsletter owners to accept your content, have you found that it is a turn off for them if they see that in the resource box of the article you have written you are sending people to a standard looking squeeze page? You know, the type with a larger font up top, maybe red font and an exclamation mark. Maybe even bullet points. You know the type I'm talking about.

Is it better to simply be sending people to your blog where they will land on a land page that is nothing more than another article, and to have your opt-in box maybe just be in the top right, or left.... or maybe at the bottom below the article as opposed to right up in your face near the top? And since we're on the topic, what about pop overs/unders/sideways whatever?

Please note also I am not referring to the IM niche area, but to a physical product niche. Thanks for any ideas!

    The quickest way to two points is a straight line. You should view your copy on the 3rd party site as the presale page, and your page as the conversion. I would highly recommend you limit the amount of options on a landing/squeeze page and get them to act, whether it's filling out a form, or purchasing.

    Thanks Matthew, appreciate the feedback. I am going to do it that way and roll with it (so as if to not lose momentum. Action!) But I do wonder if it will turn off some/many of the website/newsletter owners who would have otherwise accepted my article... had it no blatantly looked like such a squeeze page. Anyone have experience in that area?

    No: I haven't often found that to be a turn-off for them.

    The people for whom I've found it a turn-off (and I'm not trying to be "smart" here - I have actually split-tested this, in four different niches) are the potential subscribers and customers who will become buyers.

    Squeeze pages and article syndication don't fit well together, in my opinion. At least, they don't for me.

    Yes, I had more people opting in to a squeeze page than opting in to a prominently incentivized opt-in on the landing page of a content-rich site, so I built bigger lists that way. But I earned less from them, over a 6-month period, than "the other side" of the split-test. All four of them.

    I don't know - haven't really tested that. Personally, I hate the idea of sending traffic from one article to another article.

    Right up in your face near the top is good for me. As long as people can see that it's a content-rich site. This is what people who've been attracted by my articles want, because they're content-rich articles.

    It helps me a lot to have continuity of style/presentation between what attracts them, what they see on arrival, what they get for opting in, and what they get later. At the same time, I want them to know that I'm an affiliate and I'm promoting stuff, and I'm not concealing it, and I'm proud of it.

    Fizzical schmizzical ... I sell some of those, too. I don't think it significantly affects anything I said above.

      Nate, from my perspective (with my 'publisher' hat on), the problem isn't necessarily with a squeeze page format. As Alexa mentioned, it's about continuity of experience.

      If the article is good, the resource box leads readers to expect an opt-in page, and the page looks like it will deliver on the promise made, we're good. And I can't believe I'm the only one who will follow the resource box link to see what my readers will see if they click.

      Your squeeze or landing page actually has two functions. First, to encourage people to opt-in to get a promised benefit. And second, to filter out the people for whom what you offer is not the right thing.

    Don't compromise on this. No, not at all. If they're not willing to allow you share your piece of value for free and recommend your squeeze page, then they're probably not going to even allow you send it to your blog.

    This however presupposes that your content is top-notch

      Depends if your intent is to just get a backlink, or to get subscribers (they might wish to see more articles before they optin).
