The best thing would be to look at several blogs that you like and see what font type/size they are doing and then see how it looks in your theme.

If you disable the automatic pinging of posts, you can post any sort of material you want to experiment until you get the look you want without the worry of drawing traffic into your experiments.

I'm partial to arial around 12 points myself when I write in Open Office Writer.

As an article writer myself in the past every single client I have ever written for has always wanted my font in Times New Roman and the font at 12. I have written for many clients so that seems to be the rule.

Yes, nearly - but run them through something like "Notepad" first.

The formatting of "Word" isn't intended to go straight on to the internet, and there'll be all sorts of concealed formatting codes and other undesirable bits in there, which can cause surprising/difficult formatting problems if you unknowingly paste them all into Wordpress.

If you copy-paste it in and out of Notepad on the way, that will strip out all the formatting unpleasantries you didn't want. Once you then copy-paste it into Wordpress from Notepad, you'll have to do some formatting, certainly, but you'll have avoided a load of other problems.

It doesn't matter, if you follow the suggestion above, because you'll need to re-do them on your Wordpress blog anyway. But that's better.

I actually use TypePad rather than Wordpress, but it's the same in this regard, and for exactly the same reason. The solution above keeps me out of trouble.

What Alexa said. You don't want all that Word code in your post. Notepad will strip it out and put in clean text. Fonts and font sizes are generally determined by your style sheet.
