How is the economic recession affecting your Internet-based business

Frankly speaking, How is this economic downturn affecting your sales/profits?

To be honest, I haven't seen any major change in my two niches:

-Weight loss/health (for Spanish-speaking countries)
-Software tools for freelance technical translators (pretty specialized niche)

I consider myself between a newbie and an intermediate marketer, so maybe I'm not using the most powerfull tools and social 2.0, but I think I've managed to send usefull info to my list members, and to have some decent traffic to my articles.

What about yourself? Have your sales gone down a bit (or a lot)?

I believe it has affected me for the better!

more people now are desperately trying to find away out and setting up an online business falls under this. Also because i am based in europe and sell lots of products with the US dollar with the decline at the moment i am earning more from each sale than i would have done before.

It all depends on your market.

Some markets aren't effected much while others are.

The online businesses that seem to be feeling the effect of the recession the most are the ones dealing with markets that have been the hardest hit. ex. mortgage, real estate, auto, retail, etc.

Of course there are more but these are just the obvious ones.

We still hear about successful product launches, but they have passionate lists, are great marketers have many affiilates, etc.

People ARE more careful with their spending.

It depends on what niche you are selling. If you are selling physical products on ebay, for e.g electronic goods, it may not do so well at this current time. However info products that help to solve problems can have some real success

The major effect seems to be in the volume of emails that I find in my in box each morning. I am now spending 30-45 min just deleting the c..... that is being passed off as the next great bizop.

From an investors point of view, I switched out of all paper investments 18 months ago and moved everything into gold. Some of my collegues ridiculed that decision, but there is some ancient saying about a last laugh.

I also was lucky that I chose wisely when it came to the programs I was dedicating my energies to for gain. Helping people solve their everyday problems with the emphasis on them has proven to be a successful model. That design is not mine alone but one espoused by people more knowledgeable than me, and whose advice I followed. I've always said, I've never had an original idea, just managed to acquire them.

Overall it's about the same as before the "recession" but one of my niches has taken a hit, auto loans. I used to generate about 20-30 leads per day with hydra but now it's down to 10-15 per day. Other than that, everything is running fine.
