When choosing which keyword and url to promote, is the keywords showing up in analytics for the organic traffic a good indicator which keyword to go for in terms of competition (for a new site), or is it better to look what sites show up in the top3 of google, and trying to figure out if its possible to outrank them?

Sincerely
Karl

Hi Karl , personally I always do a manual check on the first 5-6 sites, there are many tools that analyze backlinks , domain age and PR , I use Market Samurai but I'm pretty sure there are many more. I found that this is the best way.

Yeah I do manual checks too. I like to see what the age of the domain is, how many backlinks they have and what kind of backlinks they have. I think a manual review if done right can give you a much better idea then any tool.

Always check the top 5 sites, if it's not going to be worth you time to outrank them move onto another keyword.
