How many people work for you

I was wondering how many people hire help for their business and what kind of help.

I have hired people in different sections, from SEO to design. From Fiverr to Freelancer.

What kind of help do you have? What was the best and worst person/company you have hired?

I hire freelancers for SEO and web development pretty routinely. I've only had a couple bad experiences so far. I'll probably hire an SEO company for full time worknon a few months. But, I don't keep anyone around full time right now.

I usually hire people for graphic design and word press stuff.

A few times I have hired a virtual assistant who had some basic SEO knowledge to do some link building.

The best person was actually two persons - 2 girls who worked for me at the same time as VA´s.

They were extremely good and wanted to learn more - I hope to hire them again soon! :-)

The worst freelancer I had was an idiot who actually looking for job listings and Facebook while he was working for me - and then added extra manual hours after!

However, there are truly a lot of good people for hire out there!

Why don't you hire your VAs full time? That way, you'll always have them

I did have 2 VA´s working for me full time before, about 4 months because I had some SEO projects for external clients.

So that might very well happen again.

I went through a string of outsourcers on various sites until I came across a solid one from odesk.com . He basically does everything (except wash windows) and I've relied upon him to do all of my repetitive tasks. I found him over a year ago and I still use him every day.

When delegating/outsourcing, don't be surprised if you go through a lot of people before finding that stellar performer. Looking back, going through the frustrating process of securing a good outsourcer was a great learning experience.

Is there any way you could tell me his name. I have hired a few different people and trying to keep track of their progress is a hassle it self.

It would be nice to have an all in one type of person. To build a relationship and trust for my business.

Fiverr is hit or miss. I paid a guy five bucks to write 15 yahoo answers.

You get what you paid for, this is one of the questions he answered -
Whats better your head in the clouds or up your @ss? lol.
Not really what I was looking for.

Odesk is a good platform to hire from - especially because you can monitor your contractor's activities on an hourly basis.

A lot of people are really good, but if you want to have a long time virtual assistant, you have to invest some time in teaching them.

Especially in the beginning a few instructional videos where you talk and do some screen recording, some small test jobs to see if the contractor understands your instructions.

        Hi adsassist...

He's no longer available on oDesk and my nephew and I made him a great deal to work exclusively on various IM projects....

Odesk really has the best pool of candidates...Test them out...If you go through 6-8, you will find a stellar outsourcer - without a doubt!

I look for quality and not quantity. Unfortunately there's a lot of work and a lot of turnover until you find the right person. There's a lot of advantages to outsourced work but some disadvantages as it may be harder to manage outsourced contractors than office staff.

The next step is to find an outsourced manager to manage all the rest of the outsourcing staff I use!

I've hired out mainly graphics projects, like book covers and logos. I don't really consider those as 'having people work for me', though.

Reminds me of the store owner who, when asked how many people worked at his store, replied, "On a good day? About half of them..." :p

I have about 5 freelancers I contact on a regular basis for a variety of services. Sometimes when I have an abundance of leads, I have to search for additional designers.

I'm particularly always in search of great content writers. Awhile back I learned that I can't do it all by myself. My problem is that I don't trust 99% of the self-proclaimed content writers out there. I refuse to hire anyone who can't speak or write English as well as my 16 year old high schooler, which is about 95% of the freelancers on Fiverr, Freelancer, Odesk, etc. Some of those individuals are only good for "some" SEO services.

I've hired web developers, app developers and data entry help from oDesk/Elance.

I've used 99designs for my graphics (app icon, Kindle book cover and infographics).

I've had very good experience with both oDesk and 99designs.

    Everything else, I do myself.

    Hi everyone,

I do also do almost of the work myself but if I need someone I'm looking for on fiverr.

But I like to learn and if I will do the required work myself it is worth much more for me.

All the best your friend and partner Erwin.

I've outsourced plenty of small jobs to freelancers on a pay-per-item basis, mostly through this forum and occasionally elsewhere, but I haven't "employed" anyone, per se.

In some ways, I'd quite like to employ one full-time person, whom I can (with difficulty!) train myself, but I'd want it to be someone I know who (mostly/partly) comes to my house and works for me in front of me. Which would be a problem, of course, because it means I can only "look locally".

I think if you hired someone they would definitely go out on their own after a while. If it's going to be difficult to teach them it might be hard to go through it every 6 months.

    Hi there,

I have outsourced a couple of things mainly technical bits to Fiverr! These were great gigs but no later than last Saturday, I ordered 2 Squidoo lenses from someone at Fiverr! They looked really good, except that I didn't check the second one, I mean the content! The first one was fine and got accepted by Squidoo and the second one was locked because of "duplicate content"! Whatever that means to them...I guess similar lenses with similar content! I got quite annoyed with myself as well as with the guy I hired! I have tried to get my 5 bucks back but it isn't worth the fight! Lesson learnt! Also, I may stay away from Squidoo, as they are just being idiotic sometimes...

I did hire someone for my site maintenance a couple of years ago but honestly it wasn't worth it because most of what he was doing, I could do too! I just needed to watch a few videos on youtube!

As far as content writing is concerned, I do it all myself! Like Patty Hewes says in Damages...." Trust no one"! lol! The squidoo thing was just because I couldn't be bothered to get the lens up and I would have re-written the content myself but now the whole URL is locked etc! So, yes I outsource but only for technical stuff and I won't outsource any writing, I don't think so unless I find a gem out there! Who knows!

    Gd Luck

I would have gone with sites like Elance & Guru.com where a lot of service providers are available who possess a long history of verified works.

I do this 3-4 times a month for all my projects handled to my teams & they do it perfectly under management supervision & by using a perfect project management software...

Fiverr services are the cheapest services . 80% of gigs delivers low quality work but there are still some very good gigs on fiverr . I have some good gigs that you can use for SEO (I`m using Senuke and i know what i`m doing - some of my websites are on the first page on google . Don`t order gigs that promise thounds of backlinks because they will give you no value ...

I have some design gigs and I can say that all my clients are very happy about what i have made for them .

Take a look at my design or SEO gigs. Read my feedback to make an opinion about my work .

My husband and I do the day to day stuff and I have a computer geek friend who does things on our site that I dont know how to do. Maybe every two months I ask him to do something. I found a lady to make a banner ad for our current sale and I have a graphic artist friend who made the logo and recently made magnets for our vehicles to advertise our biz. Our son is our marketing guru. So now that I've thought about all of this, we have more people in our corner than I thought we did :-)

For starters, people usually hire consultants and other experts on a contractual basis or retainer basis depending on what is more convenient and affordable for the business. The reason for hiring these experts is because, obviously, they can help start the business up and/or handle or help handle possible contingencies that might appear because they already have relevant experience handling such situations. Experience that you as business owners usually do not have YET.

Another reason to hire people is so that you can pass on jobs that you don't have time doing, like those small but very time consuming tasks like filing, etc. For a business person to really excel and expand the his/her business, all the time he/she has must be spent on earning money or thinking ways of earning or increasing income and not on some simple tasks.

Many people including me actually hire people for some tasks. Just make sure that you really need to hire someone and that its not JUST for convenience.
