Where is the threshold for ripping off?

I have had a programmer as significant extra functionality to a Wordpress plugin with the intention of selling here and on Clickbank.

My programmer estimates that at least 50% of the code is new and we are adding new functions as we move forward. So, this isn't just giving some else's plugin a fresh coat of paint and a new name.

I would like a bit of official guidance as to what the Warrior Special Offer regulations are for selling WP plugins (bearing in mind that WP is OpenSource), so that I don't step on any toes.

Thanks

The legal matter is with the Original Developer of the Plugin, not wordpress. Take a look at the original source and see what license it is.

Note that if it was released under GNU. You cannot sell it. All original code would have to be rewritten. That includes the function calls. Under the GNU it doesn't matter if 99% of the code is yours. It is considered a Mod.

Wordpress is open source. Is this a Wordpress design or an independent programmer? If it's an independent, the design is likely to actually belong to an individual and in that case I think you're on thin ice. As for what flies as a WSO, I don't know.
