The Microsoft App Store (Marketplace), big money to be made?

The MS App store (a.k.a. Marketplace) is for desktops, laptops, tablets and Windows phones. Write one app and it will run on all. Windows 7 has 630 million users; MS is pushing to get a lot of upgraders by offering a limited-time $40 upgrade (from Win7 or XP).

I like the idea of writing one app and it will work on all.

Do you think it can be lucrative?

If so, then the question is, what type of app do you create?

    It can be lucrative but I'd first wait for the dust to settle before engaging in it.

    Look at the top iPhone apps and offer an improved version (and not-buggy version) of it.

      I can see your point about waiting for the dust to settle. However, the flip side to that is if you get in early you might be the first with a great app and, subsequently, lots of money.

      I don't know if mobile apps are where I'd look to copy. Windows mobile is weak. I like that you can write an app for the Windows desktop. I'd like to think of an app that is cross platform.

    True story, waiting for the dust to settle will generally provide you with a less buggy app. But if you're the early bird doing apps never seen before, you'll gain more $$$.
