Selling clickbank products when living in Canada

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone here lives in Canada and sells products in clickbank? If so, how do you handle the taxes? For instance, do we need to sell the product in US dollars or Canadian?

I'm in American, but the creator of the product lives in Canada. Im his jv partner on the project and I have one of those clickbank jv contracts setup.

So just curious how some of you who may be Canadian handle selling clickbank products?

Thanks
Josh

  • I do. I pay my taxes on Canadian dollars after I convert it from American.

Technically you don't sell the products at all. ClickBank does. They're actually a retailer, not just a payment processor. Customers buy the products from ClickBank, not from the vendor. (I'm not just being pedantic, here: this is a significant point, legally and in other ways).

Customers pay ClickBank in their own local currency (ClickBank's software displays the prices to people in this way, according to their IP location, on the order/payment pages).

Sales pages that give prices almost always state them in $US, which people buying online generally expect (they do in England anyway, unless buying from something like amazon.co.uk - and I'm guessing they also do in Canada?).

ClickBank pays all its vendors and affiliates in $US, regardless of their locations.

Apologies if I haven't actually answered your question.

So for my Canadian partner he just needs to sell it in us dollars and then for taxes he just converts it and pays the canandian government in their money correct? What is this I heard about needing a GST number after 30,000 in sales or is that if your just an affiliate?

From what I read in this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6772730

Clickbank handles all of that correct? So basically just sell, convert pay government nothing more nothing less?

"Basically..." - do NOT ask ever tax and legal questions in an international public forum.

Selling info products (via CB or otherwise) is a business. Your Canadian partner should get a tax professional/accountant for proper advice.

Your answer was provided above. ClickBank sells the product and you are just a seller (Yes for your own product) so you pay taxes on the income.

You are clearly confused... why would you get a GST number if you are an affiliate? GST numbers are for your own business products and services. Like I already said above, when you sell your product on ClickBank you are like an affiliate. No requirement for a GST number. Now on the other hand if you were going to sell it via PayPal then yes you'd need a GST number.

If it's this big a deal then I suggest you get an accountant and other legal advice.
