There is no one, it is a combination of everything that produces the best results.

If one traffic source dries up you will have 20 more to take it's place.

Buy the traffic to kick-start your website.

        Then consider other methods.

And just remember: SEO is not free traffic!!

How is SEO not free traffic? I sure does drive free traffic and can be totally free if done properly.

If you write good quality user friendly content and rank page 1-2 on some low competition keywords, the traffic is free other then your time investment. Obviously there's a few more things you have to do that are again time investments but that's about it? I dont know where you are getting your information from and why you'd post that but sure!

'SEO = free' is an illusion.

The reason you think it's free is because you do not put a financial value on your own time. Are you a slave? Do you think so little of yourself that you don't even count your time at minimum wage level? Do you really value your own work at zero cost?

Ignoring costs is not a way to build a business.

Another thought: if SEO is free how come clients pay for SEO services? It's not through lack of knowledge, there is a ton of free info available. It's because of time and experience. All successful businesses value that highly and perhaps so should you.

I mentioned that in my post if you failed to read and ignore that. But essentially its free, no monetary value on time for me. You must be using up a whole lot of your time since you feel that way because I don't spend that much time on things and it works. Work smarter, not harder man. And yes, it's free as in no monetary value.

We live in a world controlled by money when it's just a tool, and is actually worthless. So sorry we don't agree on that aspect but I respect your opinion anyways. I don't view life that way fortunately and time does not equal money to me. Am I or should I be paid when I'm doing things such as hanging out with family and friends or my kids for that matter? Because I spend a whole lot more time with them then I do working. Time is just time, depends on how you personally see it. The whole time is money is pure nonsense, to me anyways.

Clients pay for SEO services because some just don't understand it, and some just don't want to be bothered trying to figure it out when its not that hard man. Just like some outsource other type of work as well. There's a multitude of reasons why, not just time constraints. Either they don't understand how to properly do something and want someone that is seasoned at doing it so they don't mess it up on their first go, or their just too lazy to do it themselves in most cases.

But your entitled to think however you feel! Good luck to you in everything you do!

I have to agree that it is best to have 4 or 5 traffic methods active every week. So, I would have a paid solo ad one day; adswaps on a couple of days; spend another writing and submitting article; post in forums and comment on blogs at other times.
All of these methods add up and can be outsourced if necessary. The key is to keep track of the results so that you can add or subtract different methods, based on their effectiveness.

Hi Katykoo, it's depends on you. Some Internet Marketer have good writing skill, they prefer blog and articles posting. For me, I perfect solo ads, writing blog, articles, broadcast, etc. If you are new in IM, I suggest you focus on 2 or 3 skills until you get results before you learn new technique.

If she's a new business, the lack of initial money could stop her from doing this. I'd start to advertise on free mediums for your service/business such as Craiglist, forums - placing your business in your signature, etc etc

depends on what your niche is about... i received some good traffic from social bookmarking sites a few years back, unfortunately the technology changed so finding the right formula is a bit confusing... you can try seo, but seo takes time and unless you have a very strong knowledge in that area you won't really know what works for you and what doesn't... and then there's traffic buying, i know it sounds evil and useless but i had some good results with it, if you find the right site to sell traffic for your niche.

Forum posting and blog posting i think is a good way to get traffic to your site, also giving things away like a piece of information that will help others for free.
Doing video's of yourself talking just simply sharing something (IM) related can also go a long way.

You're kidding me, right?? C'mon warriors. No one is going to tell her about guest posting on other peoples' blogs?

@KatyKoo, go ahead and do the seo thing. You should be doing that anyway and get good at producing high quality blog posts on your website. Because getting better at on-page SEO and writing high quality blog posts is the ammunition you'll need to server as a guest poster.

Then, start searching for other blogs where your potential customers hang out. Add a few comments to recent posts so that the blog owner sees your wisdom and knowledge of your topics. Then send in an email that you would like to supply an original blog post exclusively for that blog that you believe will be of great value to the blog owner's readers. There are a few more steps to that of course like formatting a blog post so that it's attractive to a blog owner and showing a blog owner you've served as a guest blogger before. But there really is no better way to get targeted, pre-sold traffic to a website these days than guest posting.

You can expect an average of 200-800 visits in a week's time from guest posting on any medium traffic blog. Be a regular guest blogger on, say, a dozen blogs and then as you get more experience move to bigger blogs, you can essentially predict how much traffic you want and go get it almost exclusively through guest blogging.

    If you're SOLO-IMer + Lack of $:
    Then go classic:
    Youtube
    Web2.0
    Press Release
    FB
    Pinterest
    Posterous
    Instagram
    Social Media.

    If you have a TEAM
    Then build a list:
    Grow them with care
Put the so-called 'white ethical bribe' ( sound familar?
Then you'll no longer have to worry about traffic.

My number one tip would be:

Set up an affiliate program for your product or service and pay a generous commission.

Doing this alone can fuel many businesses to the point of allowing the owner to go full-time and beyond.

Make sure to use a trusted 3rd party affiliate program like JVZoo or Clickbank so that people will know they are going to get paid.

SEO is a good start. Ads are good as well but can sometimes be a bit too expensive and at some times do not pay off really well.

As others said, however, it's up to you what combinations of different means to use not everything is as full-proof as they seem so try out various means and various combinations of those media to determine which combination or single media will be most beneficial to you at the least cost.

for me it has to be:

    solo ads
    my blog
    forums

solo ads are of course paid but they are very effective

my blog is to do with IM and i always recommend that you should be building one, it does wonders for your credibility and pre selling before people join your list

and forums work great as long as you contribute on a regular basis and offer plenty of help and tips

Whatever you do don't rely on one source. If you rely only on the big G, one algorithm update and you're done.

A sure fire way of increasing traffic is piggybacking. See what works, and adapt it to your own site. You can also take what works in one area, and put it in another. i.e you have an article that is performing good, well, take the good performing keywords and start a PPC campaign with those keywords.

      Analyse and adapt!

as mentioned by a few fellas above, it's always a combination. methods i used are
    1. article marketing (particularly effective for me, somemore it's free)
    2. social media
    3. press release
    4. youtube
5.ppc (can be very expensive, need to use carefully and wisely)
    6. solo ads (can explode your traffic if you choose the right providers)

Eventually which methods are most effective will depends on which niche you are in and your budget.

The best traffic methods I use is:

      - Blog posts with long tail keywords that I can rank for (3 or so a week)

      - Guest Posts on several other blogs (after my posts are indexed on my site I use them as guest posts when original content is not required)

Last, don't give up and keep doing the things that are working

      Hope this helps

You can also create a twitter account, get Tweetadder, set it up to automatically follow people interested in your keyword, set up a bunch of tweets with links to your websites (which will go out automatically, recurring), and other tweets that will be interesting to your followers (not just a bunch of spam). And you should be able to get a lot of traffic from that as well. Just another of the many ways to get traffic.

For me the best source of free traffic before you rank on google is through YouTube. I have so far found YouTube traffic to have the lowest bounce rate better than search traffic by far. Further, from my experience quantity matters on YouTube. The more videos you upload the more traffic you get. For beginners I would urge them not to ignore YouTube traffic

        Check out

        1. Reed Floren's solo ad directory - soloaddirectory[dot]com (not affiliate link) - He lists a ton of Solo ad providers there.

        2. Directory of Ezines - Charlie Page has put together a wonderful list.

        3. Paul Nicholls (who is a fellow warrior) - he has an ultimate solo ad list which you can purchase and its got some great tips and a list of solo ad vendors too...

I have a spreadsheet of a large number of solo ad vendors (prices, clicks etc) - PM me if you would like me to send it to you.

    difficult question....
effective shortterm method: definitly youtube (but not for every niche)
    effective longterm: seo
combine both to get some nice traffic.
of course there are other methods like fb or twitter but you need a fb or twitter account with a decent amount of followers for that.

Best method of increasing traffic is by posting to high traffic blogs with your website link and by submitting articles related to your website niche in top article directories like ezine, goarticles, etc.But now a days many people are submitting videos related to their websites in popular video sharing websites like youtube to get more traffic.

If you have a budget and can afford it, paid traffic is the fastest way to get started. That being said, as you begin to get traffic from paid sources, keep working on adding good content to your site so people find you through generic keyword searches. Keep as many sources going as possible so if one dries up, your site continues to flourish.

    For speed:

    PPC
    JV/list swaps

Put all of them together in your niche and add in guest blogging etc... and you have a fair deal of traffic.

Back-Linking is the key to having lots of traffic daily after the recent Penguin update earlier last year. It quite literally forms the basis of a successful Internet Marketing campaign for your website.

I personally use these Back-Linking strategies for my websites:

    1. Content Syndication
    2. Blog Commenting
    3. Sponsoring WordPress Themes
    4. Article Directories
    5. SEO
    6. Video Marketing
    7. Forum Marketing
    8. Web 2.0
    9. Ego-Bait
    10. Interviews
    11. Social Networking
    12. Fiverr Gigs

To be honest, there is no best way to increase traffic! I would recommend having some diversification of your back-links such that your back-links will be from multiple sources in the long run and Google actually prefers sites with quality back-links scattered all over the Internet.

If you follow all of these strategies, I can easily bet with you that your site will be absolutely KILLER and can easily get 1000 visitors daily! Also, if I had to choose, I'll pick Forum Marketing because the audience is already there and most of the people are awesome, they're usually polite and intellectual individuals!

Remember, 1000 back-links on 1 site does not beat 1000 back-links on 1000 different sites! I've written a massive guide on Back-Linking, you might want to check that out for a more in-depth explanation on the topic.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be more than happy to answer your questions!

If you are seeking for low quality traffic, paid to click, paid to read, paid to surf programs always can drive a lot of traffic, but for me ,to get high quality traffic for converting them into sales,I usually spin articles into different versions, then submit them into many article directory sites,in this way, site rank could be improved gradually for more and more backlink support.

I have used solo ads a few times, but I have to say I did not accurately record my conversions. But if you are looking for vendor reviews and conversions, I suggest the following

      1. Reed Floren's solo ad directory - Here, he has personally reviewed many vendors and gives a detailed analysis of his optin rate

      2. Paul Nicholls Ultimate solo ads - I recommend you purchase this WSO - he has produced a great list and even gives his conversion and profits in there. Well worth it. Contact him on the forum - he will direct you to where you can purchase it.

      Hope this helps.

    1. Search Engine optimization. Generate useful content like articles and blogs, through social networking and the development of multimedia. I highly recommended Long tail theory.
    2. Build the backlinks for the website. With backlinks, search engines will directly index the website after finding the links.
    3. There are some companies could increase the web traffic for the users. For example, the KSnipe Submitter. It can automatically submit articles, forum profile, and blogs to the various websites.

I make most of my money from one youtube video that is on Google page 1. The description link redirects to a clickbank product.

However, I am changing things around and will instead look to build a list from this video. I may lose out short term but should make a killing long term.

I go with long tail keywords and connect them with local places. Example health and beauty services in kansas, etc. Then I use some plr articles get them rewritten and include these keywords in the articels. Daily 20-30 articles. Once you do this for one month or so you will see organic traffic. Don't forget to setup a pop up to get email of your visitor. Thanks

I think that all the mentioned ways above are great source of traffic!

But the important is to be constant to the ways you will choose. Meaning you have to do that every days.

But social media and YouTube for me are the best bet !

solo ad works great as well, but find good solo sellers with responsive list.

enjoy your journey in the internet marketing world!

You should definitely include PPC to attract extremely targeted traffic.

People actively searching in your niche are much more likely to convert, hence the need for good targeted keywords!

Tip: In your ad copy, solve peoples pain points and have a great call to action, don't forget to state your USP.

I think the question itself is wrong.
Traffic is not the goal - sales are.
You don't just need traffic (which can be bought cheaply all over) - you need the RIGHT traffic.
The right traffic means the traffic that will buy what you are selling.
    For example:
Traffic from Japan when you affiliate with amazon.com will bring you more or less ZERO sales even if it's the cheapest traffic in the world and you drive tons of it to your affiliate shop and even if ALL the buyers are rich and ready to buy.
    Why?
Because most people from Japan buy on amazon.jp....
