Twitter is Getting Very Spammy!

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum, I am here to offer my advice and to build relationships with my fellow warrior forum members...

I am very good at marketing and I noticed I get so many tweets and direct messages from other twitter followers that say "someone is making crude jokes about you" click here to see them...

When I click on it it leads me to a spoof twitter page that ask me for my login, I am a programmer and very computer savvy so I just wanted to let everyone know to be very careful when you click on twitter links and to report them right away...

I get like 15-20 messages a day sometimes 40 from followers around the globe...

Okay off the soap box...

have a good night!

Twitter isn't spammy. Your followers are spammy. Get rid of them. I follow real people and never get spam.

It seems to just be the trend. I hate to say it, because I live half in this world (probably part of why I am only now making half the income...) but once 'we' take over a platform, it seems to get ruined pretty fast.

I think google+ may have a bead on that though. I am eager to see how their platform develops over the coming months and years, but FB, Myspace (lol...yes, I said it) Twitter, Pinterest and others are simply getting to the point where spam is taking over.

It's the new marketers that are just desperately trying to do what they read and hope it makes them money....

Here's to hoping they get some REAL warrior knowledge...

That message has been doing its rounds for quite some time now on Twitter. If you really are getting 20 of these a day, I'd definitely change your strategy for getting followers. What you're doing now is obviously attracting the wrong folk. It's true that many wannabe marketers use twitter just to promote their stuff and never actually build relationships and interact with their followers.

If you follow real people with real values and ideals you'll never get spammed. Follow someone who's intent is to ram links down your throat and you'll get spammed lol

But in general, I do agree that there are a lot of spammers on the site.

If you follow real people you wouldn't be presented with a spammy look. Maybe your followers are tweeting a lot of links.

I fail to see the attraction of Twitter, narcissists love it though.

FB is also full of spammy stuff, especially viral stuff for Coca Cola, Amazon etc.

As has been said, you get out of Twitter what you put in. If you have tried to game it by using apps to build tons of followers and all you do is megaphone it, then you'll get that right back.

However, if you actually engage and interact with people, you'll get value from it.

If you want an analog analogy for Twitter, think digital CB radio. If back in the day you had connected a CB radio to an robo-dialer, you wouldn't have seen any good value in it either.

It could be that you just have spam followers, but more likely that your followers' accounts are being hacked.

Those spam FB links are the classic ones that are sent out when an account has been hacked.

Thanks for replying everyone... I do a lot of marketing so I know I am prone to attract some bad apples but even so... some of the spammers now are very creative and have full active accounts with tons of tweets and followers - its hard to detect the spammers on twitter without actually analyzing everything they do... I guess I will go back to my twitter automate system that I originally had...

I am launching a social exchange site next week... what do you think about that? were you can exchange likes, followers, views, etc....

It's not hard at all to tell who the spammers on Twitter are if you have built your relationships based on engagement and interaction. If on the other hand, you've collected generic followers by using some of the shortcuts that have been out there, well, yes, you may not know who your friends or enemies are. In fact, how could you tell the difference?

Don't comoditize relationships and people. You can't trade relationships like they're stock and still claim they have any real value. That very attitude is what has caused us so much chaos in the real world -- some institutions forgot about human relationships commoditized them and let equations and greed rule their decisions -- this diminishes us all.

    Regards,
    jim

Twitter is only super spammy when your followers are fake profiles. What I hate are auto DM's. They always ask you to like them on FB as well or ask how you're doing and then never respond. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth that you don't care which is the wrong way to build engagement.

How do you feel about Auto DM's?

I really cannot stand Direct Messages.... Yes, you are correct - to me they are a additional "troll" with the same generic response for everyone... I have done some statistics and it does indicate that people that utilize DM get a 35% chance of a CTR ratio then people that do not use them... I guess I am on the fence with the effectiveness...

Follow real people. You're "lucky" you're just getting spam links. It could be worse. Much worse. Think malware links or attack site links. Twitter and FB have been hit by these so be very careful. You don't want your PC to become part of a botnet.

Twitter marketing hasn't been so effective for me. I tried different vendors with thousand upon thousands of followers within my niche. Seems like none of them even bother to check the link out.
