warning: spoof Amazon order confirmation emails

Hi - I just got the most realistic looking spoof/phony "order confirmation" email ever, a fake Amazon one, saying I'd bought a $778 television, shipped to some bogus address. What's suprising is how 100% real it looked, with my business email address and everything...with the amazon graphic header and everything. Of course none of the links in the email were from/to amazon, they were all to some fake .com location...

Anyways, just a word to the wise. This was a remarkably well done spoof; of course I logged into my amazon.com account the right way (entering amazon.com into my browser address bar), to confirm no this wasn't a real order, and of course it's not.

    I got them too.

And it was done pretty well, except the address didn't look like a real address, and the click-through URL was wrong.

The URL is the fist thing I always check when this sort of thing happens.

All it takes is a visit to the wrong URL and your computer is under some hacker's control.

I learned this the hard way when I first started using SEO tools for scraping domains.

That's not that bad. I once got the most realistic PayPal email ever. And it was relevant time too.

I got about a 100 of them. Didn't you notice the "from name" didn't say Amazon? It was all just random people.

The ones supposedly from Amazon haven't showed up yet, but there have been emails from "eBay" and a few others with my "official order confirmation" for some things never ordered. If any of those make it into the regular email section, they never get opened, just put into spam and deleted.
