What do you say about the issue of focusing on one topic?

Guys, I have been doing online marketing for a good while now, so as you can imagine, I got to learn about different strategies and niches (traffic generation, making money online, social media, copy writing etc) and I am blogging about all these on one blog?

Now, the question is, does it really matter that I am blogging about all of them on one blog? I ask because there is this issue of focusing on one niche and write about it, which of course makes sense?

But I have already done this now, should I drop it and pick one niche I should focus on?

I could post my blog here so you see what I mean if that's okay, I haven't been heavily monetizing it yet so there is not much to buy anyway, just good information.

Thanks for your contribution in advance.

You really just have to think of the visitors to your website man. What do you want them to do? What's the goal of your site? Are you promoting products/services that encompass all of these subjects? When you look at it. Making money online seems to be the main topic, and all of the subjects you mentioned are tools that people use to make that money.

I cover all those topics on my own blog, but to be honest, I'm a pretty shit blogger

I suppose the narrower your focus, the more laser targeted your promotions and traffic can be. But, as I said, blogging is not one of my strongest points. I have one goal for my blog and it's to promote a single training/coaching program that covers all those topics anyway.

Does that make any sense? probably not

As they all apply to Internet Marketing in some form or fashion, I don't see a problem with it.

They could be organized as different categories in one over all blog on IM.

But if it bothers you then you could break each one down to a micro niche of the broader IM niche. It's your call, really.

Have you checked to see what keywords are bringing you the most traffic?

IMO, if your passion lies in one niche then focus on just that... but if your passion is in multiple niches, then focus on one or more of those.

The rule of thumb is to hyperfocus on a specific topic or niche. However, IM is a bit different because IM seems to be THE niche or primary vertical with multiple topics, subjects, tools, resources, techniques, and sub-niches? Think John Chow, Russell Brunson, Jeremy Schoemaker, etc.. I like to enter a wide vertical (like IM) and then drill down to a niche that I have experience with (ex: Craigslist marketing) and carve out out my niche within the niche, if that makes sense. It separates you from the others, as we're in a fairly saturated market, and keeps your readers/visitors focused on a single strategy or set of strategies within one niche. Of course, you can always make one site with a clear distinction between the categories. One strong suggestion (as it has worked well for me) is to create squeeze pages for each main niche category, allowing you to effectively build your list one niche at a time. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Well, I learnt that key is to build a list form blogging rather than aim for the buck, yeah, so that's what I want them to do, since I learnt this, I never want to just go for the kill and promote either my own products or affiliate ones.

Please don't call yourself a shit blogger, words are powerful - take it as a learning curve and look at areas you need to improve, we all have to start from somewhere. I wouldn't say I am great at it but I am simply correcting the mistakes I have made over the years, blogging is not the easiest of things to do and not the hardest once you get the hang of it.

Quality information with consistence is the remedy, now I expected results after having posted only a few posts? Guess what, that don't work and I think that's why most people fail with blogging, we simply give up on our blogs. I am now getting a lead here and there which is great for me I think it's great to generate free leads. Aiming to improve it even further now.

Good luck with your blogging, you can do it and it can soon become your strong point, remember to confess positive in your life!

That's what I thought Terra, they all apply to Internet Marketing and yes, I put them in different ctegories. It doesn't bother me really, see, I am sure you know how tricky this business is, so many process that work together.

Good suggestion on checking keywords bringing me most traffic - have been meaning to work on this and tracking - very important!

Following the rule of thumb, I like the idea of creating squeeze pages for each main niche category like you are saying, and that's what I am doing. Now, a piece of advice to anyone working on squeeze pages, as this can be a time consuming process, one can easily get tempted to use the same autoresponder code for different niche capture pages, I have done that, and please don't do it, it just doesn't work, it will end up confusing yourself and worse you will lose leads as they will optin only to find that's not the info they opted for. Hope this makes sense, e.g. I would create a capture page for article marketing, and used the same autoresponder code I used for a blogging capture page etc.

Talking about saturation, I always want to think there is no such thing as saturation as we have more and more people discovering the internet, so there will always be new people if you know how to get them - HINT!

Thanks so much, every little helps!
