How to setup a roundtable discussion site

My wife wants to setup a site where she and a few friends can debate different issues. The idea is to have this core group be able to interact with each other directly (like a forum). While the general public can read and make comments on their ramblings (like a blog).

I have thought of forums, blogs, and using a membership site script, but nothing seems to do it all.

Would any of you have any other ideas of how to do this, or how to take the needed good points from my three ideas and weave them together?

Of course we would like to be able to make a little money off of the whole thing.

Thanks

Kevin

Have you thought about doing a webinar?

You can have multiple users / guests, include powerpoints and
other marketing assets record it and then sell it

    or offer it to members.

People can also call in -ask questions etc.

    Just some thoughts!

The webinar would be a good solution if this was to be a one off thing. They keep going at it for hours a day, so there should be enough content to keep it fresh for, I don't know, one hundred years or more.
