Why is my page not converting?

Hello,

I have a website selling a strategy guide for the newly released video game, Black Ops 2.

I get around 100 visitors per day and have not sold more than 1 guide in day.

For Black Ops 2 being the too selling game in the world, I think I should be getting much better results.

1/3 of my traffic comes from search engines
1/3 comes from social media networks
1/3 comes from press releases and classified websites.

Can you harshly critique my sales page and give me any advice to increase conversions?

I would appreciate all comments.

Thank you

Here is my website: Black Ops 2 Strategy Guide

1% is about the average, so just try and get more traffic. As far as the site, you could make it look more professional, maybe even move your testimonials to the top above the fold, and see if that converts more...

P.S, pay someone a few bucks to make you a better header

2 be honest! Your sales page looks great, you prolly just need to get more targeted traffic. Have u tried youtube?? Like ripping some black ops videos, then re-uploading them to your account and putting a link you sales page in the description. Or better yet, get a couple of the videos u rip and re-upload ranked on google for certain buyer keywords for your niche. Youtube videos are super easy to rank in google..you just have to do some keyword research to see what keywords will work best for you...Good Luck!

Lots of features... very little in the way of benefits.

Your copy seems like it was written more for SEO than to get prospects excited about your product.

Why should people buy this? What is it going to do for them? How will it make them feel? How much more will they enjoy the game when they're able to dominate and go on massive kill streaks? Will it make their friends jealous when they're constantly racking up MVPs?

These are (some of) the questions you need to answer.

That page won't convert because you don't have anything showing who you are or what you can do. I've sold a lot of MMORPG guides, like a lot.

You need screenshots, at least. Better would be a short screen capture of you actually playing, showing a secret trick or something.

      1% is about the average
I've had guides convert at nearly 8% as an affiliate. WOW Tycoon gold add-on converted at over 6% for almost two years.

Make people want the info you can offer.

There is a BIG problem that's costing you money and it's easily fixable...

    The problem is your design.

Think about your target demographic here. They are mostly teens to early 20s gamers. They are the tech savy generation. Do you know what people think when they come across your site?

"Wow this site looks like it was made in 15 minutes. No way this site is trust worthy."

Your site design sucks. It isn't flashy enough to be an "authority" to most people. You're dealing with people who grew up with computers. They know a shitty website when they see it. Here's an example of a website selling a guide in the gaming niche.

Cataclysm Wow Gold Secrets - HOT & NEW >>

That website looks great. It looks like an authority. It doesn't look like some crappy website some kid in his mothers basement threw together in 15 minutes hoping to make a buck off some people.

Design normally doesn't play as big of a role in most websites, but in this case your dealing with tech savy people who can smell bullshit a mile away. If you don't look presentable they will click that red X before they even read a single word on your website.

Fix your look and I guarantee you will at least get them to stick around and read your copy (which I haven't had the time to look at).

The OP's issue has NOTHING to do with design. It has everything to do with the sales copy and selling features instead of benefits period! Once the OP gets the sales copy down, then he can work on design, but truly it's not about how pretty or high tech something looks. It's the copy that sells.

I immediately thought the reviews were fake given the pictures - they look like models and scraped from somewhere (if they are or not). Big turnoff for me.

Also, the headline doesn't make any sense to me. "Unlock the #1 Black Ops Strategy Guide..." I was confused - do I pay to unlock software or what? I buy guides, I don't unlock them.

Also, I clicked on the cover above the fold, and I just got a graphic. Clicking the cover should bring you immediately to purchase.

Copy is very important. I didn't have time to go over his but from what I saw skimming around it didn't look very good. That being said design is very important in this niche for the reasons I outlined. You aren't selling to grandma here who doesn't know what a legit website should look like. Design is very important in this niche. Almost every gaming guide site out there is decked out graphically for good reason.

Gotta agree with this sentiment... the copy didn't grab me at all, and I have every call of duty game that has come out, and I wan't even remotely interested in buying your guide!

      IMO you need:
      1. A decent header (not some repeated image but a real header)
      2. A cracking headline that makes me want to watch your...
      3. Video of you or someone else actually kicking butt in CoD
      4. Some decent screenshots
      5. A Buy Button above the fold (just below your video).

And then test like crazy with different headlines, headers and price-points.

You're using Optimizepress and that is perfectly designed to do everything that i've mentioned here.

      Good luck!

One thing that will probably increase your conversions is to add a bonus or two. You want them to think that they are getting way more than what they are paying for.

Also, your sales page looks ok and clean which I like, but as Rogueone stated, you need to add some screen shots of the game and benefits (the advantages they will gain over the competition for purchasing this guide...in bullet point format).

Maybe include some testimonials or social proof from the games sales page or look around the web for reviews and add them as social proof.

I think sales booster and Rogue may be on to something.

Maybe the tech savvy nerdy kids think the design sucks.

I personally think it's decent, but, we're talking about the "twitter" generation with about as much attention span an adolescent school kid. (Because, that's who they are).

Kids now adays don't even like to read for 2 seconds. I bet some badass images or a video would convert much better. But, you have to keep the text too so it will keep SEO juice. So, maybe have some badass images at the top. (This is just a hunch, I'm not an expert with the Twitter crowd, but it makes sense).

PS: I say "twitter crowd" because those are the type of people who only read about 150 characters at a time; the younger generation.

But, I don't really know, I've never ventured that far out of the major niches into this unknown land.

    ;D

I think it's something to think about.

Will... The above the fold of your salespage sucks! You need a clear headline (not the one you already have:"The ultimate black ops 2.....") that builds curiosity while also stating the main benefit and you also need some red color in that text.

Also you might want to drop the first buy button as no one will buy using that one - they need to know more about the product (and go to the bottom of the page).

    This is my 2 cents.

At first, I thought it was a squeeze page, and my immediate reaction was "This dude's opt-in should be above the fold..." Then I realized it was a sales page, and I kindof dropped the thought for some reason. yeah, I think it still applies.

Also agree that the first buy now button should be dropped.

I agree with what has been said above, that the site needs some tweaking at least above the fold. I would start by split testing the following:
    - header: test one of the optimize press templates without header (these got me a significant better optin rates in some cases) or test different headers. Maybe the guy with the gun should be centered and not be repeating two and a half times. Also you may try to have a logo for your header created instead.
    - Headline copy: needs to tested as well. Go for the benefits (what does your guide do for the buyer?)
    - Share this page box: I´m not sure if this is the best place (best in terms of sales) to position the social box. Maybe you give something like the DiggDigg floating bar or something similar a chance.

Did you think about going the classical SqueezePage -> FollowUp -> PitchEmails route?

Are you targeting the right people? If not, try selling your guide on Ebay. It worked for my wholesale list. However, you might want to offer Ebayers a better deal. My wholesale list sells on my website for $17 but I offer it on Ebay for $7. State in your Ebay description that buyers are saving $10 by buying on Ebay.

Your headline doesn't have a benefit for your customer.

It looks like you're trying to go for the "Announcing" headline
but you forgot to put in the benefit as well.

You need to also add bullet points. Add feature and benefits
    to it.

Also, down by the buy button you should restate all the
secrets that your customer is going to learn from buying
your product. You should put it in a P.S.

I would say you might just need to look from the prospects perspective a bit more and come up with some of their pain points, like what will happen if they don't buy the guide and keep sucking at the game and then weave in more benefits with the features so they can visualize how awesome it will be when they kick ass at the game.

And like someone said above, figure out who the audience is (teenagers or 20 somethings, whatever...) and use that to figure out what's going to motivate those people to buy most...any images you can find to help instill these fears or motivations would be good too.

Definitely make the headline better by making it more based on big benefit, curiosity or fear of sucking based...know what i mean? Something to differentiate this guide from others besides just saying it's better...and if you can't get what you want with the OP fonts, you could try creating the headline in MS Word using big bold letters (myriad pro black is good) and then using Jing to capture it as an image and upload it into OP...it can be better to have a text headline but sometimes images give you more flexibility when you create them in another program. Hope that makes sense...

Anyways those are my random suggestions, hope they help!

For some reason people do not seem to be aware of the actual paying demographic for video games these days. The number one paying demographic is men over 30. There are more adults buying and playing video games than teenagers or young 20 somethings, by far.

Now, depending on where you are going to market, the audience might be teenagers or young 20 somethings, so you need to know who you are marketing to...

That being said, you need to write the page to the gamer's viewpoint, not yours. You have written all the things you think are great about your guide, but not how I'm really going to benefit if I read it.

Instead of this "Here’s just some of the exclusive Black Ops 2 Revealed features…"

Say this, "After you're done reading through Black Ops 2 Revealed you will be able to..."

Or with this line, "If you’re interested in getting the best professional tips on becoming an expert Black Ops 2 gamer"... Is that what your audience is really wanting? Tell me this instead, and you have my attention: "If you're interested in learning how to finally frag your friends, and have them begging for mercy..."

    And so on....

    You need more targeted traffic.

Plus, how many people are really out there that are desperately looking to "buy" a strategy guide for black ops 2.

Most of them are looking for FREE info and strategies.

So, make sure your keywords are buying words and not just for the free loaders.

You need to be more convincing with your copy. Show Benefits on why they can't live without this guide.

And where did the info come from and who is the creator of it? A top gamer with credentials, then show that. There's no way in hell that I would go to your site and fork out $17 without knowing where the info came from. Like a "who are we" or "why listen to us".

You could ad an optin form and catch some sales on the backend.

    good luck

I'll try to comment from the perspective of a writer.

    1. Change your main heading.
If I were a beginner Black Ops 2 gamer, it won't attract my attention, not a single a dollar.
Perhaps, I will dare to click it if I were just about to install the game and learn how it works. You are targeting average to advanced users, aren't you?

    2. Elaborate those 6 features.
While it's good that you put an emphasis to those 6 features, you also need to mention some examples or scenarios when one can use each feature. Mentioning a few of those peculiar scenarios in the game itself will help. I am not a Black Ops 2 player, FYI, but I can visualize what I would be looking for if I were a player.

    3. Add some more reviews/testimonials. Don't cut corners by just showing 3. Make it more realistic but showing testimonials as much as you can. It's not about faking those reviews and grabbing images from Google but you get the idea, I hope.

    4. Add more Black Ops 2 images, especially those captured images that show those executed features.
...or simply add more Black Ops 2 pictures, wherever and whenever appropriate. Change the background color or background image of your front page. Create an aura that will make your visitor really say, "Ah, this page is all about Black Ops 2." I'm not trying to be rude but when I view your site, I had the impression that the page also sells non-Black Ops 2 products.

That's all for now, fellow. I am not trying to be so personal in my comments. I'm just trying to help. If there's anything else, feel free to ask.

You said "harshly critique," so here it is:

Your Copy is Redundant, it Feels Like You're Targeting Keywords for SEO

There's nothing "hard hitting" about your copy, and you use words that no gamer who's about to pay money for something would ever want to hear.

    "45+ Page Strategy Guide
Our strategy guide will help to outline some basic strategy Black Ops 2 and give you a brief overview of the best strategies and advantages to playing Black Ops 2."

I'm telling you as a gamer - and I'm an EXCELLENT gamer - that I never want to hear the words "basic strategy" in something I'm going to pay for. I want to be THE BEST there is, and I want the tools and secrets that are going to help me get there.

Even the use of the word "Black Ops 2" seems awkwardly injected into the statement. Once again, like you're going for SEO benefits.

All in all, your entire copy feels like you're trying to cater to the typical Internet marketing audience; not gamers.

Your Headline Doesn't Hit Home with Anything

You list what they'll get out of the ebook, "the latest cheats, tips, strategies, and much more!"

Snore... Gamers don't want to hear that. Sure, they can understand benefits, but if you don't deliver it in a flashy package, they'll turn tail and leave.

    They want something more like:

"DOMINATE the Leaderboards, CRUSH Your Competition into Dust, and OWN Every Match with These Proven Methods..."

Gamers are violent, so powerful and violent words will sell. This headline is just an example - I'm not about to sit back and start testing for your website - but things that leave a powerful impact, ones that will give the impression that they'll be able to dominate their competition, are the ones that will sell.

    Your Testimonials Suck

The people in your testimonials all talk about the same thing. Firstly, who cares about cheats? I can find any cheat for any game on the Internet, free. Why would I pay you for them? You might think that the only way to get these cheats is through strategy guides like the one you're promoting, but the fact is that gamers desire glory.

A handful of gamers might buy a strategy guide, find the cheats, tell their friends, who then tell their friends, who then post the cheats on the forum in order to build rapport and credibility (Nerd cred) with their online community, where such cheats will ultimately be taken and spread like wildfire until they're no secret at all.

Cheats can be nice, but for gamers they are NOT a selling point, so your testimonials shouldn't focus on those at all.

What your testimonials should say is something like "This guide was SO worth it! I made Prestige class in just a couple of days (Working on Prestige Level 6 now!), I always come in at least the top 3 in every match, and my friends are always at my mercy now! They ask how I do it, but no way am I giving away the secrets that I've learned from this book!"

This creates measurable results, intrigue, and desire. To the reader, the desire comes in the form of wanting to be better than their friends and peers, longing to be at the top of the match results, and a mixture of desire and intrigue comes from wanting to know these "secrets" so that they can get the same results. In fact, just knowing that this person who's written this testimonial is guarding it closely tells the reader that this information is precious and valuable, and they WANT to have it.

    My Advice

Seriously, I've invested too much time already to answer these questions, but I might as well finish.

Trash this sales page, set up a squeeze page, find something inside this book that you can write into a small report and offer to them for free (In exchange for their email, of course), and when they sign up, upsell them with the ebook.

If you do it right, you'll have yourself positioned as giving them one secret that will help them with this one thing on Black Ops 2, but when they see that upsell, and how buying this ebook will not only get them that one secret, but a bunch more that will make them the most efficient killer they can be.

Get this: If you make them feel like they're going to get something much better than the people who only want to get the free report, you'll increase conversions. The reason for this is that you're competing them against the others who opted-in. You're telling them that the SERIOUS gamers who want an edge over those who are too cheap to invest in this awesome upsell, are the ones who will buy it.

Since these kinds of gamers are competitive, if you're feeding them something that basically says "The strong will buy this, the weak will not," you WILL make sales.

Take that, use it, and be grateful.

This looks decent actually-good looking page. As some have mentioned prior, I'd pay a pretty penny to fix your banner-doesnt look that great. Also, the wording in Black above the fold looks all jumbled together and hard to read. It starts with, "Unlock the..." i dont like this text.

Side note-definitely move testimonials above the fold to see if that helps conversions.

SO it seems like you have a good start with your traffic. But it seems like people just don't grab onto what you're pushing. So I have some suggestions:

    1. The design is bland. One of the first things people pay attention to is the design of a web site. The product you're selling should also reflect in your web site in this case. People who buy this game are not impressed by such a design. They expect more action and excitement from your design.

    2. The copy on your web site does not have a natural flow for those looking for such a product. As a gamer you aren't looking for some sales page fit for people wearing ties, you want an experience that will push you that much closer to buying the book.

    3. This is for "Call of Duty: Black Ops2" right? Try placing the whole name of the video game as a keyword in your TITLE, DESCRIPTION AND BODY of the web site.

I think one conversion a day is doing good. But if you follow the advice I've given and the advice of others on this thread, you'll see those sales convert in no time.

    Here are some Marketing Suggestions:

    1. Start a free blog about your new book. Blog about the different secrets, cheats and strategies without giving it all away.

    2. Try using FaceBook Ads and FaceBook period. Create a fan page and join other fan pages that have something to do with Call of Duty or Video gaming. When you post and comment in other groups, be sure to do it under your fan page name and leave comments and posts with substance.

    3. Use YouTube to give a quick break down of the book. The video you create for the book make sure you make it the featured video on your YouTube channel and Use Keywords in the Title of your Video. For example: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Cheats, Secrets and Strategies. Something like that. Don't forget to add the link to your web site in the description. Also make sure the description is good as well. Not, too ling though. Then go out and find other videos that are similar and leave a video comment instead of leaving a regular text comment. This helps to grab more attention.

    4. Create some articles providing valuable information on what to expect from the game, how it will effect your playing and how much more value the book brings to the gaming experience. Make sure they're different. Google is a stickler when it come to duplicate content.

    5. Try out some Mobile Marketing ads. Since you can also play games on your smart devices, sending out mobile ads will help to place your product right in front of the people you want to see it.

    6. Hit the gamers forums and introduce your book. It's a gaming community so there ears will be wide open.

With all this said, My biggest advice to you is to jump on things like this ASAP. As soon as you here the game is coming out, if an affiliate product is available, seek it our and push it early! :-0)

I hoped this helped and answered some questions! :-0)

Design mate. It's an exciting game in an exciting genre - you need to ramp up the pizazz a whole notch.

A better header would be the first step, however making the whole experience more 'media-rich' would be the overall strategy.

        Really?

I just saw the website and if that's the best you can do. You're a waste of time for everyone who just gave you advice.

If that's the best you can do, just go home and call it quits because you ain't going to make it.

Again, I said I am now including all advice listed above.

Have a copywriter writing the content, adding videos, a blog, and much more.

          Thank you for the comment.

My eyes are drawn directly to your social tabs before anything else. I know you want to get this out on the social networks, but I'd move those down to the bottom of the page. The goal of a sales page is to get the visitor to click and buy the product, not share it on facebook or twitter.

I'd also consider splitting your page with another buy button and price. Think of it this way, some visitors only need to read the headline and a list of benefits. Hit them with those fast, then a buy now button and they are sold.

Others need more information and will take anything you are willing to give them, including testimonials and further details. Add this after the first buy now button, and then put the second one at the bottom.

    Just my two cents.

Have you tried using an exit pop? One of my niche websites dropped in traffic to where it only gets about 3-10 unique page visits a day but somehow it still generates at least one sale every week.

An exit pop-up and new window that opens to my affiliate link I believe are the reasons for this. If you're using WordPress I'm giving one away free through my email list.

Try to change the layout of your site and add more quality content that are helpful to users rather than just have the common sales/landing page. You need to change your webpage into a good-looking and quality site by creating more pages with good content.
