Steve, my best performing ad copy for use in ad swaps over the years has been written in the voice of the swap partner to quickly bond with the prospect, personally identify as having at one time suffered with the problem most common to that niche, explain how I agreed to let him/her provide access to my solution for that problem free for a limited time, a quick list of benefits it provides while solving the problem, then a personal recommendation from the swap partner with a strong, clear direct call to action to click on the link, type their name and email then "Get My ___" (whatever call to action verbage you have on the submit button of the webform).

Finally, with a ps. tell them to take advantage of the special limited one time offer after they claim the first free offer because of (then list the benefits of the one time offer) and then another strong call to action to reinforce the free offer.

This subtle "presell" of the oto from your swap partner transfers his/her recommendation for the paid offer and in essence, when they reach your oto, it's no longer just you "trying to sell something" but you are now the provider of what the person they know, like and trust has recommended they purchase with a personal recommendation which makes effective use of the power of the 3rd party recommendation to sell.

When I started using this method, it increased both subscription optin conversion rates on the front end as well as sales conversion rates on the backend offer.
